Iron Pan Extravagance

A business cannot survive and prosper for 40 years unless it has something truly special to offer; which is why Kahyangan Restaurant in Wisma Nusantara was honored when it attained the ripe age of 40 on September 18.

In Japan, food preparation is an art form and teppanyaki is no exception. The art of cooking on a hot plate began in Tokyo, featuring dramatic cooking techniques including tossing and flaming the ingredients. Light seasoning and fresh ingredients are also characteristics of teppanyaki, as this style of cooking aims to enhance rather than mask the original flavor of the ingredients. Seasonings are limited to salt, pepper, sake, grape seed oil, soyu and butter.

Due to how teppanyaki is prepared, it has long been believed to be one of the healthiest dishes. It’s cooked at high heat with only a drizzle of oil, making it quite low-fat and gentle on the stomach. Beyond that, the portions are usually small yet adequate, making it an ideal dish for those who are health-conscious. In Jakarta, perhaps nothing beats Kahyangan Teppanyaki when it comes to this amazing dish.

Before Kahyangan Teppanyaki opened a year ago, Kahyangan restaurant was known for its shabu-shabu dishes. Kahyangan’s historic reputation, however, encompasses the food as its background is colored by its loyal patrons of powerful Indonesian and international figures. For decades Kahyangan has played host to VIPs, state officials, business tycoons, celebrities and political leaders.

Kahyangan Teppanyaki opened in April 2012 as its sister restaurant, providing an added boost to the brand’s stellar reputation. Today, both Kahyangan Shabu-Shabu and Kahyangan Teppanyaki are managed by the Pullman Jakarta Indonesia. Both restaurants are conveniently located on the top floor of Wisma Nusantara, once the tallest building in Jakarta, next to Pullman Jakarta Indonesia. Kahyangan Teppanyaki is on the 28th floor while Kahyangan Shabu-Shabu spans floors 28-30, offering spectacular views of the Hotel Indonesia roundabout.

Kahyangan Shabu-Shabu offers vast selections of premium quality meat and seafood as well as fresh Asian vegetables served with the restaurant’s signature homemade ponzu sauce made from vinegar, lemon, Kikkoman sauce, and extracted poached fish skin mixed with sugar. The key ingredient to success for Shabu-shabu has always been the freshness of the ingredients.

Considered a newcomer, Kahyangan Teppanyaki offers a wide range of teppanyaki and yakiniku delicacies in à la carte as well as set menus. Using only the finest produce, Kahyangan serves its teppanyaki and yakiniku creations with a variety of homemade sauces including the sea urchin sauce, balsamic teriyaki sauce and orange miso glaze among others, to complement the dishes.

A journey to great discoveries at Kahyangan Teppanyaki usually begins with a selection of appetizers including the Canadian live lobster sashimi, ankimo ponzu, Shitake Ebi Shinzo, grilled tuna belly skewer and French oyster “fine de claire”. These are followed by main courses featuring imported Japanese Ohmi beef, one of the three top Japanese wagyu beef types according to the Japan National Tourism Organisation. The restaurant also serves U.S. prime beef, which is a great addition to Kahyangan’s extensive meat options. As for seafood, the mind-blowing menu features live Canadian lobster, Alaskan king crab leg and king prawns. If that’s not enough, foie gras is also available – and you know you can’t ask for anything better. These meats are served with jaco garlic rice and inaniwa noodles. Impressive though the appetizers and main courses are, Kahyangan’s desserts are truly worth the anticipation. Banana flambé is the first dish you should try before indulging the sweet tooth with earl grey milk tea chocolate mousse and soybean panacotta. All of these dishes are featured in Kahyangan’s most popular Teppanyaki and Yakiniku set menu, “The Premium”.

Kahyangan is definitely a restaurant where you can eat like royalty, feasting on the finest ingredients prepared in the most authentic way, all the while being pampered by attentive staff while sitting in the most spectacular setting.
