Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta: A Symbol of Cultural Preservation

Last December, the Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta celebrated its second anniversary by holding a gala dinner together with the city’s good people and the royal family.

The prestigious event was also held to christen the Kasultanan Ballroom, a new, multi-functional grand ballroom glamorously designed to host more than 2,000 guests. The christening ceremony was conducted by no less than the governor, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwana X himself.

To add to the cause for celebration on that festive evening, Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta announced the launch of a Japanese version of their official website. This new development is expected to extend the hotel’s reach in the increasingly demand-rife Japanese market in and around Yogyakarta.

The gala dinner was fittingly themed ‘HamemayuHayuningBawana’, one of the oldest Javanese philosophies which, translated, means “to preserve cultural and natural continuity”. In his welcoming speech, the General Manager emphasized the important role the hotel has taken to enhance the historical city’s cultural influence and share its esteemed values with the world.

Following an amazing buffet dinner, guests were treated to a series of musical performances by eccentric Malaysian singer Xiao Hei, a gorgeous fashion show by AfifSyakur, and for the encore, a collaboration between traditional-modern percussion group KuatEtnika led by DjadukFerryanto, featuring the mystical vocals of soprano DiraSugandi.

The very special evening was a blast and but a taste of what the future has in store for the new Kasultanan Ballroom and the many prestigious events and gatherings it will presently host.

Also in the pipeline is an all-new spa which is run by the royal children of Keraton. In an exclusive Q&A, GustiBendoro, the youngest of the five daughter of King’s, revealed that the primary concept of the spa fuses graceful Javanese dance moves with fresh and premium spices and herbs. While selected treatments are already available, the new spa is expected to be fully operational in the very near future.

Another ongoing project is the development of a new gym and fitness center just a few steps away from the remodeled swimming pool area, built in accordance with five-star hotel standards around the world. The conversion of the top level of the main building into an integrated, exclusive and luxurious Presidential Suite is also a highlight in the agenda of Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta.

Credit goes to Santika Indonesia group, who took over the old, gloomy place known as the Ambarrukmo Palace Hotel and turned it into the prestigious Royal Ambarrukmo Hotel that we know in all its glory today. The people of Yogyakarta can now continue to cherish one of the most iconic landmarks the city has to offer and expect exciting prospects in the future.
