The Costume Institute Gala, also fondly known as the Met Gala or the Met Ball, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City – also marking the grand opening of the Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. Needless to say, the celebration features resplendent fashion displays that match the theme of the exhibit.
Each year, the red carpet of the evening is thronged with celebrities wearing the best of the best in fashion. This year was particularly special, as the theme, ‘Charles Jones: Beyond Fashion’ pays tribute to British-born fashion designer Charles James, famously known as “America’s first couturier”. Check out some of the Jamesian-inspired glamour and silhouettes. And despite all the grown-up ball gowns seen on the red carpet, many also donned James’ more creative, free-spirited designs.
