Five brightest stars in a culinary Journey from France at the first Grand Cru Dinner at Paris van Java
Who says travelling can only be done by visiting a place on a list? In fact, your taste buds can take you to another art of the world. On the 3rd of November 2016, the Buttercup Café held a Grand Cru Dinner with the theme being a French culinary adventure. The Buttercup Café is located within the Four Points Hotel on Ir. H. Djuanda street No. 46, Bandung. At first glance the concept is a café specialising in providing baked goods but it is also an excellent venue to hold events or have a dinner or two.
There are five vineyard adventures in the Grand Cru Dinner, they are: Chateau D’Issan 3em, 2011; Malescot Saint Exupery 3em, 2004; Malescot Saint Exupery 3em, 2001; Chateau Lascombes 2em, 2009; Rauzan Segla 2em, 2006 that come from a winery located in Margaux, southwestern France. Chateau Malescot Saint-Exupery began in 1855 and has experienced all of the ups and downs the wine-making business has to offer. The Chateau is now managed by the Zuger family who have spared nothing in their efforts to make Malescot Saint-Exupery great again. Their wines will evoke the complete French experience.
Your French adventure would probably begin with your arrival at Charles de Gaulle Airport, Paris. The Chateau D’Issan 3em, 2011, a deep-purple colored wine with the scent of spring flowers, blue berries and raspberries, greets you before unveiling the main event. Full and silky it turns chewy and mouth puckering, a perfect beginning to your adventure.
From Charles de Gaulle Airport, you head to the city where you start wandering and exploring, the initial impact of the traffic on the Boulevards vanishes as you feel the deeper atmosphere of France and you begin to relax. The Malescot Saint Exupery 3em, 2004, accompanies to perfection the Foie Gras served by Chef Renov. The rich, elegant, balanced flavor of the wine blends well with the appetizer. The scent of plum, black currant, cherry and a hint of floral scent encourage your mind to continue your exploration of the city.
No doubt having explored the rues of Paris for a while you will sooner or later arrive at the magnificence of the Eiffel Tower from the top of which one can see the whole city. A seafood mousse and Malescot Saint Exupery 3em, 2001 will deepen your feeling of being in France. This 15 years old red wine with its scent of red cherry and cranberry and hint of smoke and cocoa give a smooth, soft, polished and round taste will have the experience of Paris flowing along your tongue. Enough is definitely not good enough and the wine will make your taste buds scream for further Parisian adventures.
Time now then for the main event. The heart of Paris is the Eiffel Tower and scaling its heights is the main experience of feeling French. Chateau Lascombes 2em, 2009, is an inky-purple colored wine with a beautiful blueberry scent with hints of acacia flower, licorice, where subtle charcoal and background oak blend well with the main course of the night, Grilled Organic Beef Tenderloin. A pure, seamless, full-bodied and opulent taste partners the savory flavour of the steak, answering your wanderlust for France. You can feel the whole Parisian and French experience in your mouth. The wine and food make you feel as if you were on the top of Eiffel tower, romantically staring out into the city with your amour.
Your French adventure is almost complete, but still you want more. You want a complete journey, an adventure of which you can be proud. The Rauzan Segla 2em, 2006 is the missing piece. With an elegant and gentle but dense taste, and the scent of exotic red fruit with a hint of nutty oak, this wine will be the finishing touch to your French adventure. The taste will ensure you fall in love with the beauty of Paris, wishing to go back.
