Having your children monkeying around in the back seat does not mean sacrificing style and satisfaction when it comes to choosing a car; here are Inclover’s picks for those who need to carry a family around but with added automobile personality.
VW Polo 1.0 Bluemotion
As a car that’s been remade over and over again, the Polo continues to get better with the passing years. VW’s Bluemotion tag refers to engine technology designed with the aim of reducing fuel consumption. The turbocharged 1.0-litre engine might not sound much but efficiency is the language it speaks. At 68.8 miles per gallon, the Polo Bluemotion is happy sitting idle in a traffic jam but still able to keep up when there is a need for speed.
Rivals: Renault Clio, Chevrolet Sparx
Audi RS6 Avant
Quick and reliable, estate cars are often synonymous with being dull but the RS6 Avant simply oozes persona. Easy to handle, the V8 engine is shorter when compared to the previous model’s V10 and this means better balance for the 4-wheel drive. However you choose to fill the interior, it is easily big enough to fit four members of the kin plus a gigantic Labrador. A practical estate car in which to run around while still leaving room for a playful slide when you’re on your own.
Rivals: Volvo V90 , BMW 5 Series Touring
Tesla Model X
Remember when Doc Brown and Marty arrived in 2015 and the cars there just went nuts? Well, me might not have them just yet but at least we have the Model X. Its lithium-based battery is capable of running for a quiet and swift 315miles between charges, it can fit 7 people inside and the control panel is simply something from the internet. By the way, have we mentioned that it can literally drive itself?
Rivals: Porsche Macan, Mazda CX5
Ford F-150 Raptor
Its oversized-ish build might seem to be a handful, and its more stylish twin, the Raptor is the closest thing to the word “too much”, but regarding turning heads when dropping off the kids on school days and dashing to the holiday cabin in the woods on the weekends, look no further. The base V6 engine screams power and the EcoBoost version keeps them all sensible again.
Rivals: Land Rover Discovery, Toyota Land Cruiser
