2023 will be a special year as Panorama Media, the organizer for Indonesia Comic Con, will hold two ICC events in June and November. The first will be held on 23-25 June 2023, at the Jakarta Convention Center under the name Indonesia Comic Con Pop Asia 2023. This celebration event is dedicated to true pop culture fans from the world of comics, toys, video games, board games, films, music, and also lifestyle. The Asian pop culture theme will make this year’s Indonesia Comic Con different from the previous year, because the atmosphere, participants, and content for this event will be more Eastern Asia-inspired.
Indonesia Comic Con Pop Asia 2023 Media Launching event was attended by Royanto Handaya – President Director of Panorama Media, Andita Tirtawisata – ICC Project Manager, Rizqi R. Mosmarth – Secretary General of Asosiasi Komik Indonesia a.k.a. AKSI (Indonesian Comic Association), Bryan Valenza – Co-Founder of Beyondtopia Entertainment and Emi Takeya – Producer of CLAS:H ( Cosplay Live Action Show: Hybrid) of Takeya Consulting, LLC., who each addressed their own roles as well as expectations and hopes for the upcoming event. Mr. Royanto, representing the organizer, expressed their intention to not also create a vessel for Asian pop culture but also to boost the development of local creative industry and reintroduce them to a broader audience.
Ms. Andita followed with explaining that the second event which will be held in November will also include Western pop culture in addition to Asian, as well as several special programs during the upcoming ICC Pop Asia 2023 such as the invitation only artist convention on the first day with a sharing session and a seminar, targeted mainly to university students who study field related to creative industry. The After Dark Concerts will be the highlight of each day, presenting well-known performers such as May’N, Rica Matsumoto, Studio aLf, as well as local and international DJs such as DJ Ryu ☆, Redshift and Weird Genius to mention a few.
Mr. Rizqi and Mr. Bryan, who both represent the comic community, expressed their enthusiasm for the event which will also be a platform for local comic studios and communities, creators and consumers alike to meet up and collaborate. Endorsed by the Ministry of Trade, it is expected that more local IPs will come forth into a successful franchise in the future. Last but not least, Ms. Emi Takeya explained that the ICC Pop Asia 2023 will act as one of the preliminary rounds for WCS, World Cosplay Summit in Nagoya.
