The Jakarta Heart Center (Rumah Sakit Jantung Jakarta) has opened a special integrated clinic to diagnose and treat patients with signs of heart failure.
Blame for the increase of heart failure falls on an unhealthy lifestyle and age, the two factors that make HF (heart failure) a possibility for anyone, anytime. The Heart Failure Clinic has been established to help diagnose early symptoms for HF and, in the long run, reduce the increasing mortality rate, especially in Jakarta and its surrounding areas. Based on the results of a study entitled “Heart Failure Across Asia: Same Healthcare Burden but Differences in the Organization of Care” published in the International Journal of Cardiology, the number of heart failure sufferers in Indonesia is 5% of the total population. The mortality rate due to heart failure in Indonesia is also relatively high with 17.2% of patients in Indonesia dying during hospital treatment, 11.3% within 1 year of treatment, and 17% experiencing repeated hospitalizations due to worsening symptoms.
The Jakarta Heart Center is committed to providing comprehensive and integrated services through the opening of the latest Heart Failure Clinic on Wednesday 5 April 2023, the 10th Heart Failure Clinic in Indonesia. Patients suffering from HF can get intensive treatment and recovery facilities that focus on diet, exercise, and medication, as well as directions to learn how to live a quality life with heart failure. For the HF Clinic, the most important thing is to make patients aware that they are not alone. Furthermore, the Heart Failure Clinic aims to manage symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and swollen feet. Next, the team will assess the patient’s medication and adjust it as needed to reduce symptoms and prevent complications. The team of specialists will also work with patients to develop a lifestyle change plan that can improve their heart health, such as adopting a heart-healthy diet, exercising regularly, quitting smoking, and reducing stress as well as regular monitoring. Finally, education. Patients and their families learn about heart failure, its causes, symptoms, and management.

The Heart Failure Clinic at the Jakarta Heart Center is located on the 2nd floor, where a multidisciplinary team of specialists in heart & blood vessels, medical rehabilitation, clinical nutrition, clinical pharmacy, and trained heart failure nurses supported by thorough and sophisticated equipment, will treat heart failure through comprehensive consultation and education for heart failure sufferers. The clinic also facilitates one-day-care diuretic injection services to relieve shortness of breath in heart failure patients.
