ASCOTT INDONESIA CELEBRATES WORLD MANGROVE DAY WITH SUSTAINABILITY ACTIVITIES

The Ascott Limited – Indonesia (Ascott Indonesia), as one of the leading international owners and operators of hotels and serviced apartments, is pleased to celebrate World Mangrove Day by organizing a series of activities focused on the conservation and restoration of mangrove ecosystems. The event aims to contribute to the community and the environment as part of its commitment as a responsible lodging company. It is also part of raising awareness about the importance of mangroves and their role in mitigating climate change.

This activation program is in line with ‘Ascott Cares’, a commitment to extend culture of care and hospitality to the people and environment. To fulfil this commitment, Ascott has developed a sustainability program centered on the following five pillars: Community, Alliance, Respect, Environment and Supply Chain. This mangrove plantation activity is in collaboration with Mangrove Jakarta, a local community focused on promoting initiatives to save the earth by planting mangrove trees to raise public awareness on environmental issues facing today’s society such as climate change, deforestation, and abrasion. Through this collaboration, Ascott Indonesia plants 100 mangrove tree seedlings and cleans the beach as a form of commitment to environmental sustainability.

Mr. Charles Lee Abbott, Ascott’s Regional General Manager for Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines, said: “At Ascott Indonesia, we are committed to incorporating sustainable practices into our operations and raising awareness about environmental conservation. This is also in line with our brand signature of Somerset and POP! which brings an eco-friendly concept to the properties. We believe that this action will have a significant impact on the environment, and through this initiative, we hope to encourage others to join us in protecting these essential ecosystems”.

Attended by Ascott Indonesia management, representatives from Somerset serviced residences and POP! hotels properties from Jakarta region, several KOLs, and local community, the event consisted of mangrove sharing knowledge hosted by Mangrove Jakarta, a symbolic ceremony by handing over the mangrove trees to Ascott Indonesia, followed by mangrove planting in the designated area. Ascott Indonesia recognizes the vital role of mangroves in maintaining coastal biodiversity, improving water quality, and protecting against coastal erosion.

Through its environmental initiatives, Ascott Indonesia aims to contribute to the well-being of local ecosystems and communities. During the event, participants learned about the importance of mangroves through educational sessions and planting process participation. Ascott Indonesia also monitors the growth of the mangroves to ensure long-term success, collaborating with Mangrove Jakarta to track the growth and health of the planted mangroves.
