In conjunction with the 12th anniversary of Istituto di Moda Burgo Indonesia, a biography of Jenny Yohana Kansil as Designer and Founder of the institute was recently launched. Biography written by Asteria Elanda and published by Gramedia (KPG). “Courage is a valuable asset, this includes dare to dream big, dare to fail, dare to face challenges,” Jenny says in the book, which comprises 168 pages in 7 episodes and an Epilog. This biography tells her inspiring stories from how first she decided to take part in developing Indonesia’s fashion industry.
She humbly shared that it never once crossed her mind that one day she would build something that brings advantages and value for the Indonesian fashion industry. Her determination, strength, and ability to respond to opportunities have paved the way to establish Istituto di Moda Burgo Indonesia as the first Italian fashion school that brought Italian know-how to Indonesia in 2011.
In her 20s, Jenny was a successful financial businesswoman, then she realized she had a great passion for the fashion world that made her feel alive. Jenny left her career and went to Europe to study fashion and built her career from scratch. From that point, Istituto di Moda Burgo Indonesia continues to grow and has graduated almost a thousand graduates, some of whom are esteemed Indonesian fashion designers. Designers also known as Burgonian (#BurgoProud) including Julianto, who often holds fashion shows nationally and abroad, also Benita & Janice who brought their brand, Maquinn to Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2021. As well as Tities Sapoetra, an influencer who continues to work as a designer, and his work is trusted by many well-known brands in various collaborations.
Jenny was recognized as the designer to introduce Lubuklinggau’s Durian Batik at the Emerging Talents Milan Fashion Show in 2021. This story unfolds with inspiration and an intriguing story behind it in the sixth episode. After going through a winding journey, Jenny won a prestigious designer’s award of Gianni Versace – ‘The Genius of Gianni Versace Award’ in Milan on 21 September 2022.
