ArtMoments Jakarta 2023 took the Indonesian art scene by storm with its captivating theme, EMBRACE MOMENTS: Continually Art. Held from August 18th to 20th, 2023, at the Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel, this art fair once again proved to be a platform where creativity and innovation converge.

This year’s theme of EMBRACE MOMENTS: Continually Art aspired to bring attention to the optimism towards the growth of Indonesian art, which continues to move further in an increasingly vital diversity of forms of expression. This year’s event, directed by Rizki Zaelani, attempted to showcase the dynamic and ever-changing character of art.

In its sixth edition, ArtMoments Jakarta featured a selection from more than 25 prominent national and international art galleries. The event also invited art professionals, from artists to galleries to curators to critics, to welcome and celebrate the progress of art, highlighting the significance of each artistic moment. ArtMoments Jakarta aims to raise awareness of the activities and work programs of Indonesian art institutions (especially galleries and art fairs), which continue to strive to make Indonesian art competitive and contribute to the development of international art.

“With ArtMoments Jakarta 2023, we want to drive significant progress in the Indonesian art industry. We seek to broaden art appreciation and stimulate a rich cultural dialogue by presenting quality works from various perspectives. By facilitating interactions between artists, collectors, and art connoisseurs, we pave the way for more growth and connection in the creative landscape,” said Sendy Widjaja, Co-Founder and Fair Director of ArtMoments Jakarta.

One of the remarkable aspects of Art Moments Jakarta 2023 was the diverse range of artworks on display. From traditional paintings to contemporary installations and even NFT creations, the event showcased a wide spectrum of artistic expressions. This diversity reflects the evolving landscape of the Indonesian art industry, which continues to be a fertile ground for creativity and innovation.

The opening of ArtMoments Jakarta 2023 was attended by esteemed VIP guests and media members. The occasion featured a symbolic flower-cutting ceremony at the installation “Perjalanan: Bunga yang Bercerita” by acclaimed floral artist Nina Nasution.

Highlights this year included Japanese artist Miwa Komatsu (presented by Whitestone Gallery), Arkiv Vilmansa (presented by G3N Project x Museum of Toys), the internationally-known Indonesian contemporary artists Eko Nugroho, and Heri Dono (presented by The Columns Gallery), Handiwirman (presented by Gajah Gallery), emerging Indonesian artist Laksamana Ryo (presented by Gallery Afternoon), and Indonesian painter Erizal (presented by Gajah Gallery), among other exciting artists.

The public program of ArtMoments Jakarta 2023 included panel discussions and workshops titled Converse Moments and Maker Moments, respectively. One of ArtMoments Jakarta’s goals is to make the art fair more inclusive and socially responsible, and this year’s Maker Moments worked with the Indonesian Special Family Forum (FORKESI) to oversee an art class for children aged 8 to 15 with special needs. Plasticology, a Maker Moments class conducted by Balinese artist and environmental activist I Made Bayak, demonstrated how to turn plastic rubbish into works of art.

ArtMoments Jakarta has been providing a platform for artists to get recognition, art aficionados to explore new viewpoints, and collectors to buy remarkable pieces of art for the past six years. The spirit of the event encourages collaborations and dialogues within the art community, which contributes to the growth and development of the local art scene.
