
Indonesian Fashion Chamber (IFC) in collaboration with Bank Indonesia, Ministry of Trade, and Ministry of Education Culture Research and Technology for the second consecutive year, held SPOTLIGHT Indonesia 2023. SPOTLIGHT took place at Pos Bloc from 16-18 November 2023. It was the closing series of fashion festivals organized by IFC, among others like JMFW and IN2MF 2023.
The fashion world is a threat to the environment, whereas fast fashion contributes to significant economic and social impacts. Encouraging sustainable fashion is one solution to save the environment. SPOTLIGHT presents creativities from fashion designers, brands, and fashion design school students who apply sustainable fashion principles, including the use of local resources, such as wastra, local culture, and crafts.
Numerous programs of fashion shows, talk shows, workshops, and exhibitions showcased the sustainable fashion initiative implementations. SPOTLIGHT strengthened collaboration with various parties for a sustainable fashion ecosystem. For instance, among IFC, Lois Jeans, and Anindhaloka launched the Indonesia Sustainable Fashion Movement (ISFM), which is a social movement that invites everyone to participate in creating a sustainable fashion ecosystem through conscious living, from upstream to downstream, that includes the cultivation of fiber raw materials, fiber production, yarn production, textile production, fashion and accessories production, and consumer users. The ISFM showcased upcycling fashion products through exhibitions and fashion shows. Lois Jeans collaborated with IFC designers to use denim waste in fashion products that can have added value through upcycling.
Upcycling collection from 10 designers, namely AL•DRI•E, BRILIANTO, Dhi Flora, Emmy Thee, Erika Ardianto x ARRA, OPIE OVIE, Pricilla Margie, Rosie Rahmadi, SAPARO, and Tailormoon were showcased in the closing show. The collection was also exhibited in the installation area. Another attraction of using denim waste shown in the sustainable fashion installation including the stage decoration, which supported the stage layout like lighting and choreography that became fashion and art performances.
The closing ceremony of the SPOTLIGHT Indonesia 2023 fashion parade also featured signature designs from Pitnapat Yotinratanachai from Thailand, DedenSiswanto, Gregorius Vici, Farah Button by Sutardi, Temma Prasetio Ready to Wear, Tenun Gaya by Wignyo, Sofie, RaegitaZoro, and Xander.G by Weda Githa.
