UOB Indonesia is once again enlivening the national art scene with the 14th UOB Painting of the Year competition, inviting both newcomers and veteran artists alike for a showdown of artistic expression blending the worlds of art and gastronomy in a delightful multi-sensory experience. The competition, open for entries until August 2, 2024, beckons a tasteful twist on its theme. UOB Indonesia has whipped up “Palette to Plate: When Art Meets Flavour,” a culinary adventure that marries the visual and gusto arts. Maya Rizano, the Head of Strategic Communications and Brand at UOB Indonesia, expressed excitement about this initiative, which allows the public to interact with art in a tangible, flavorful way.
The visual theme for the 14th UOB Painting of the Year competition draws inspiration from “Chumphon Estuary,” the acclaimed piece by Thai artist Pratchaya Charernsook that won the 2023 UOB Southeast Asian POY. The artwork serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers microplastics pose to our vital waterways, echoing the artist’s call for urgent conservation efforts and sustainable practices to protect our delicate ecosystems. This resonates with UOB’s vision for the future of ASEAN, which includes a commitment to nurturing the sustainable growth of regional communities, promoting social inclusivity, fostering a positive environmental impact, and driving economic advancement across the nations it serves.
The competition welcomes all Indonesian citizens and permanent residents to submit their masterpieces via www.UOBandArt.com. The judging panel features esteemed art figures like Ms. Melati Suryodarmo, Dr. Agung Hujatnika, and Mr. Heri Pemad. The winners will be revealed on October 16, 2024, with the top artist advancing to vie for the UOB Southeast Asia Painting of the Year award and a residency program. The regional winner will be crowned on November 13, 2024, in Singapore.
In conjunction to the art competition itself, starting from May 8 to August 24, 2024, foodies and art lovers alike can indulge in a creative menu inspired by last year’s best painters. Eyes and palate pleasing menus such as Sega Rames Asmaraloka (Asmaraloka rice), a full meal inspired by “Dear Mothers”, a painting by Sultan Putra, Ice Mangga Samsara Maya (Iced Mango Samsara Maya), a dessert consisting of various elements, depicted from the painting of “7°49’03.3”S 110°21’00.2”E” by Begok Oner, 13th UOB’s Most Promising Artist of the Year (Indonesia) and Ice Phantasma, a refreshing drink translated from the painting of I Gusti Agung Gede Jemana Murti “Phantasma 2” will be featured in selected Remboelan outlets. This fusion of art and dining promises to be a feast for the senses, offering a fresh perspective on how we experience and appreciate the beauty around us.
