Adiwastra Nusantara, one of the biggest textile exhibitions in Indonesia, has returned with the theme “Diversity of Indonesian Textiles, the Allure of Nusantara Culture”. This event serves as a platform to showcase and promote a wide range of textile creations including woven fabrics, batik, embroidery, jumputan, fashion items, and related products.
The wastra exhibition, which has been organized annually since 2008, has consistently garnered a highly favorable reception. This enthusiastic reception has been witnessed not only among craftsmen, wastra designers, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) involved in the traditional wastra industry, but also among the wider community, particularly wastra enthusiasts.
Different types of wastra will be showcased, including batik, tenun, jumputan, and embroidery from different parts of Indonesia. Additionally, there will be fashion products and accessories based on wastra, as well as jewelry. These items are produced by UMKMs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) that are supported and facilitated by various agencies and institutions, such as Ministries, Regional Governments, State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), and the Private Sector.
Adiwastra Nusantara 2024 is set to present two distinctive display stands: Uis Karo Woven Fabric, highlighting the creations of designer Torang Sitorus from North Sumatra, and Batik Peranakan, a collection curated by batik connoisseur and author Hartono Sumartono. The event will also feature the annual Textile Design Competition, Adikarya Wastra Nusantara, attracting nearly 100 talented designers nationwide specializing in batik, weaving, and combination techniques.
Throughout the 5-day exhibition, visitors can enjoy a variety of activities that will bring vibrancy to the daily agenda. These activities encompass fashion shows highlighting national designers’ creations influenced by traditional textiles, enlightening talk shows, interactive training sessions and workshops centered on traditional textiles, captivating traditional art performances, and a host of other engaging events.
