ArtMoments Jakarta will return on 9-11 August 2024, captivating art enthusiasts and collectors with its highly anticipated art fair at the Grand Ballroom of Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel. This year’s theme is “Renewal,” a concept deeply intertwined with human life, encompassing personal growth, social transformation, cultural rejuvenation, technological advancement, and environmental sustainability.
ArtMoments Jakarta 2024 will feature national and international distinguished galleries, showcasing a diverse range of artworks. This significant cultural milestone offers modern, contemporary, and media art, with a curated art tour and various side events that create numerous opportunities for networking and engagement. The fair will also present a series of compelling talks from expert speakers covering current issues and topics, and a Charity Auction in collaboration with the S. Sudjojono Center.
The event will open with a dance performance by Heri Dono, the first Indonesian artist to break into the global art scene in the early ’90s, presenting a visually interpreted critique of the New Order government. “We are thrilled to bring ArtMoments Jakarta back to the heart of the city, providing a dynamic and profound platform for art galleries and artists to explore the multidimensional theme of ‘Renewal,'” said Dr. Sendy Widjaja, Co-Founder and Fair Director. “This event is designed to inspire, challenge, and celebrate all forms of renewal, fostering a deeper understanding of transformation and growth in personal, social, and environmental realms,” Sudjud Dartanto, Artistic Director, added.
Aligned with the theme of “Renewal” and principles of environmental sustainability, ArtMoments Jakarta is gradually evolving into an eco-friendly art exhibition. This process involves short-term strategies such as using low-emission materials and long-term plans for sustainable booth designs. We also encourage the entire art community to use low-carbon materials and demonstrate significant environmental changes by urging individuals to report emissions, set goals, form green teams, and adhere to commitments for substantial environmental progress.
“As a manifestation of our commitment to promoting green art fair, we use recycled panels to reduce the use of wood, thereby impacting deforestation. Additionally, we utilize LED lights that can save thousands of watts. Just from these two components alone, we can significantly reduce carbon emissions,” said Sendy.
Special to this year’s edition, ArtMoments Jakarta is delighted to host the first solo exhibition in Southeast Asia by the renowned American-Ivorian artist, Aboudia. This event marks a significant milestone in the global art scene, bringing the works of Abdoulaye Diarrassouba, known as Aboudia, a distinguished contemporary artist based in Brooklyn, New York, and Abidjan, Ivory Coast, to a new audience. Aboudia will exhibit dynamic and expressive paintings that blend street art aesthetics with traditional African art influences.
Ethan Cohen Gallery will bring Aboudia to Jakarta for the first time. Ethan Cohen Gallery has represented emerging and internationally renowned artists for over thirty years, many of whom have become household names in the art world. Known for its innovative approach, the gallery serves artists and clients through global art exhibitions, curatorial projects with prestigious institutions, and influential cultural events.
Adding to the excitement, there will be a collaboration titled ArtWonder, featuring new media art from Indonesia and its sister cities. This initiative will showcase modern creations that fuse technology and creativity, emphasizing innovative spirit among contemporary artists.
