LIXIL Indonesia, the parent company for well-known brands such as American Standard, GROHE and INAX, proudly presents two initiatives which aim to move forward Indonesia’s architecture and design scheme. LIXIL Architectural Design Competition (LADC) and LIXIL Day of Architecture and Design (LDAD) invite visionary ideas from professionals and students alike while being committed to them themselves.
The Plaza Senayan Sports Hub is a prime example. It is built on Plaza Senayan’s parking area and aims to cater to Jakarta’s active sports enthusiasts and business people of all ages. The Sports Hub is a collaborative space presented by Plaza Senayan, Asics and LIXIL, a two story semi-permanent building consists of an outdoor sitting area/café, running shoes rental shop by Asics, and female shower room on the first floor, while on the second floor you can find the male shower room right next to full air conditioned coworking space. The shower rooms are proudly presented by LIXIL Indonesia, offering a relaxing bathing experience with premium quality amenities. As the trend of healthy lifestyles increases, this facility supports the community in living a healthier and more active lifestyle. With thousands of visitors every week, the Sports Hub is a clear example of how well-designed public spaces can have a positive social impact, facilitating health, collaboration and community connectivity in Jakarta.
Carrying this ‘adaptive architecture’ concept, LIXIL Architecture Design Competition (LADC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) of the Republic of Indonesia takes the Ministry’s office buildings as the centerpiece of the competition, focusing on the reimagination of Jakarta’s urban space in the post-capital era. Competition participants are invited to explore sustainable architectural solutions for PUPR office buildings, especially in the context of adaptation after PUPR’s staff move to the new capital city. Experts were appointed as the main judges for LADC 1 2024, including Budi Sumaatmadja from Anggara Architeam, Dicky Hendrasto from Duta Cermat Mandiri (DCM), and Sofian Sibarani from Urban+. The 2024 LADC registry is open from July 27 to September 8, 2024.
Through LADC, LIXIL Indonesia also provides opportunities for architects and designers to gain visibility among industry professionals and compete for prestigious prizes. One of the main prizes is the Snohetta Studio Exchange for the Professional Category, which is designed to provide winners with exposure to the working methods of world-class architects at international architectural firms, experience working on international architectural projects, and the opportunity to build professional networks at a global level. In addition, for the Professional and Student Categories, there is a prize in the form of an Architectural Exploration in Japan that will enrich their design insights and inspiration.
The LIXIL Day of Architecture and Design (LDAD) which was first held in 2019 is an event to celebrate innovation in the architecture and design industry. With the theme “Adaptive Architecture: Repurposing Obsolescence in Achieving Sustainability Vision”, LDAD 2024 will be attended by renowned speakers, both from within and outside the country, including David Gianotten as Managing Director of OMA, Olga Bolshanina as Associate Partner of Herzog & De Meuron, Dicky Hendrasto from DCM, and Budi Sumaatmadja from Anggara Architeam who will invite architects and designers to explore how adaptive architecture can answer the ever-growing needs in urban spaces, especially in Jakarta. Through LDAD, LIXIL Indonesia will also announce the winners of this year’s LADC which is expected to inspire architects and designers in Indonesia to further explore the role of adaptive architecture in sustainable urban development, by offering innovative solutions in reusing abandoned buildings and contributing to community well-being.
