MINISTRY OF TOURISM AND CREATIVE ECONOMY PRAISES 2025 OUTLOOK FOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf), Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, has encouraged all elements of the pentahelix—academicians, businesses, communities, government, and media—to collaborate in developing high-quality and sustainable tourism.

Sandiaga Uno emphasized the importance of this collaboration, citing current trends in tourism that are shifting toward experiences that are personalized, customized, localized, and smaller in scale.

“I appreciate the hosting of Indonesia Tourism Outlook (ITO) 2025, especially with its theme aligning with current tourism trends, including the integration of digital technology,” said Minister Sandiaga Uno during his keynote speech at the ITO 2025 event organized by the Forum of Tourism and Creative Economy Journalists (Forwarparekraf) at the Aston Kemayoran Hotel, Jakarta, on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

Citing the World Economic Forum (WEF) report released on May 21, 2024, Sandiaga noted that Indonesia has ranked among the top 10 countries in the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) since 2019, with a 4.5% increase in score.

“Indonesia is now ranked 22nd out of 119 countries, ahead of Belgium, 6th in Asia-Pacific, and 2nd in ASEAN. This achievement is a result of the pentahelix collaboration among all tourism stakeholders,” said Sandiaga Uno.

Furthermore, the Minister emphasized the importance of adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) as part of the ongoing digital transformation. He also highlighted the relevance of sustainable economic models such as the Blue Economy, Green Economy, and Circular Economy.

“The integration of Blue-Green-Circular Economy (BGCE) concepts with AI technology to create environmentally friendly, efficient, and sustainable tourism should be implemented early on,” concluded Minister Sandiaga.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Forum of Tourism and Creative Economy Journalists (Forwarparekraf), Pasha Yudha Ernowo, expressed his hopes that the discussions at ITO 2025 would result in concrete policy recommendations and foster synergy between the government, private sector, and the community.

“Let’s work together to position Indonesia as a leader in sustainable tourism, supported by technological innovation and sustainable economic practices,” he said.

Meanwhile, Agustini Rahayu, Director of Strategic Studies at Kemenparekraf and a speaker at the event, emphasized that the 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) focuses on developing quality tourism destinations that align with market preferences, which are shifting toward sustainable and regenerative tourism.

“This includes expanding tourism centered on the Blue, Green, and Circular economies, as well as building green infrastructure for both basic and supporting tourism facilities, and enhancing human resources,” Ayu explained.
