MINISTER OF TOURISM AND CREATIVE ECONOMY LAUNCHES MASTERPLAN DOCUMENTS FOR TOURIST ATTRACTIONS IN PRIORITY DESTINATIONS

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy
Agency (Menparekraf/Kabaparekraf), Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, has launched masterplan
documents for tourist attractions in four regions that are part of priority destinations.

The tourist attractions include the Tekaan Telu Waterfall in the city of Tomohon, a buffer for
the Likupang Super Priority Destination (DSP); Cemara Shiu Geopark Rinjani in East Lombok Regency, which supports the Mandalika DSP; Dodola Island in Morotai Regency, part of the Morotai Priority Destination; and Kumala Island in Kutai Kartanegara Regency, a buffer region for the National Capital (IKN).

Minister Sandiaga, speaking during “The Final Episode of Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno”at the Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, on Monday (October 14, 2024), stated that the masterplan for tourist attractions, which has been in preparation since May 2024, is expected to help realize quality and sustainable destinations. “Our hope is to continue developing this masterplan, and I appreciate the expert team from Sam Ratulangi University Manado, De La Salle Catholic University Manado, Mataram University in West Nusa Tenggara, and P2Par ITB, as well as local governments and the private sector who
contributed to the preparation of this masterplan”, said Minister Sandiaga.
Budi Faisal, Head of the Center for Tourism Planning and Development at Bandung Institute of Technology, said the masterplan preparation process involved the central government,
provincial governments, city/regency governments, community leaders, and business
associations. “The key aspect is that we involved everyone in creating this tourist attraction masterplan”, said Budi.

Pj Regent of East Lombok, Muhammad Juaini Taofik, expressed hope that this masterplan for tourist attractions could boost tourism visits to East Lombok. “We are grateful, as our region was designated as a super priority destination. In 2023, based on statistics, there were over 53,000 tourist visits. Now, by the end of September, we have already reached more than 94,000 visits, which is extraordinary. With the finalization of this masterplan, we are even more motivated to increase it” said Taofik.

Taofik plans to utilize the tourist attraction masterplan to develop facilities at Cemara Shiu, as part of efforts to develop Rinjani Geopark, aiming to create quality, competitive, and
sustainable tourism destinations. “Rinjani is part of the geopark, and we are committed to utilizing this masterplan to develop tourism facilities at Cemara Shiu” Taofik added.

Pjs, Mayor of Tomohon, Fereydy Kaligis, stated that with the availability of this tourist attraction masterplan, the Tomohon city government will focus on providing facilities supporting the Tekaan Telu Waterfall area. Together, they are planning to collaborate with the private sector to provide facilities, supported by the Tomohon city government. This area has potential because it is also close to the catchment area of Tomohon city, which has a view of Manado Bay. He also revealed his plans to make Tomohon’s tourist destinations environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Present at the document handover event were Assistant II for Governance of Morotai Regency, Syafrudin Manyila, representing the Regent of Morotai, and Assistant for Economic Affairs and Development of Kutai Kartanegara Regency, Ahyani Fadianur.
