United Tractors Tbk. recently organized a media gathering in Semarang, Central Java, bringing together journalists and media professionals for a two-day event aimed at fostering peaceful journalism and exploring sustainable energy solutions. The event kicked off with the arrival of participants in Hotel Tentrem Semarang, a place known for its rich cultural heritage, setting the tone for the insightful sessions ahead. The highlight of the first day was a seminar on “Peaceful Journalism,” where esteemed speakers such as Dino Patti Djalal and Desi Fitriani shared their insights on the importance of responsible reporting in today’s media landscape as well as the experience they have mustered so far. The seminar emphasized the role of journalists in promoting peace and understanding through balanced and ethical reporting. Discussions covered the importance of a well-planned diplomacy, various aspects of journalism, including conflict-sensitive reporting, the impact of media on public perception, and strategies for maintaining journalistic integrity in challenging times. The session was closed by a company update led by Corporate Secretary, Ms. Sara K. Loebis.
The second day of the gathering featured an educational visit to Tanjung Jati Power Plant (also known as Jawa-4) which was brought by a consortium of three companies, Sumitomo Corporation, Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., and PT United Tractors Tbk. through its subsidiary, PT. Unitra Persada Energia. The visit provided participants with a firsthand look at the operations and sustainability initiatives of United Tractors and aimed to shed light on the company’s commitment to sustainable energy practices and its efforts to minimize environmental impact. The consortium itself materializes through the existence of PT. Bhumi Jati Power (BJP) which owns coal power plant (CPP) Unit 5 and 6), generating 2×1,000 MW and located in Tanjung Jati B CPP complex, regency of Jepara, Central Java. CPP unit 5 and 6 was developed as a part of the expansion project of Tanjung Jati B CPP complex.
During the tour, attendees were informed about the adoption of Ultra-Supercritical (USC) coal combustion by BJP, one of the best techniques in the field of coal power generation. The USC technique will produce a far more efficient steam thermal cycle, significantly reducing coal consumption compared to other existing methods. As a summary, the advantages of USC include high efficiency, a reduction in carbon emissions, and higher pressure and temperature.
Also on the second day, the attendees visited Jaya Samudra Group at Bondo Village, a community of fishermen that benefits from United Tractors’ CSR program. The villagers who previously relied on one source of income through fishery, were introduced to seaweed cultivation as well as processing. The latter contributed way more as it resulted in ready-to-sell products such as snacks, refreshing drinks and even a special coffee blend. The media gathering in Semarang was a resounding success, fostering meaningful dialogue between United Tractors and the media community. By focusing on peaceful journalism and sustainable energy, the event underscored the company’s commitment to promoting positive change and contributing to a better future.
