MARRIOTT BUSINESS COUNCIL INDONESIA 2024: LEADING WITH PURPOSE AND EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES

Marriott Business Council Indonesia concluded 2024 with remarkable initiatives that underscored Marriott International’s commitment to leadership, education, and community empowerment. A highlight of the year was the third annual Women in Leadership (WIL) Conference held at Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa on December 3-4, 2024. The event brought together 225 participants from 62 Marriott hotels across Indonesia, including 13 of the 14 female General Managers in the country. The conference featured empowering discussions on sustainability, panels on supporting women leaders, wellness sessions such as yoga and mental health talks, and activities supporting the Metta Mama Maggha Foundation. Speakers included industry leaders like Emma Jones, Vice President of Human Resources Operations, Asia Pacific, and Nia Niscaya, Senior Expert on Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

In addition to the WIL Conference, Marriott representatives visited Songan Village on December 10, 2024, and Bengkala Village on October 9, 2024, in collaboration with the Bali Children Foundation. In Songan, 48 representatives from Marriott properties in Bali monitored the progress of the Education Technology (EdTech) program launched in September 2023, which had benefitted 1,048 children by enhancing their literacy and numeracy skills. The initiative also improved the approach to teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and STEAM-H (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math, and Health) education. In Bengkala, efforts supported 87 deaf and mute students through school refurbishments, provision of specialized equipment, educational technology, and inclusive learning environments designed to prepare students for broader opportunities.

These initiatives exemplify Marriott International’s core values of Putting People First and its Serve 360 commitment as a force for good in the community. Martin Ehlers, General Manager of Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa and Chairman of Marriott Business Council Indonesia, emphasized the progress made in empowering future female leaders and enhancing the lives of thousands of children and families in Balinese communities. Looking ahead to 2025, Marriott Business Council Indonesia remains dedicated to environmental sustainability, supporting local communities with esteemed charity partners, and empowering female associates. These efforts align with Marriott International’s goals for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and its Serve 360 commitment.
