Singapore Tourism Board (STB) recently announced its first strategic partnership with Garuda Indonesia and Changi Airport Group (CAG), to increase two-way visitor arrivals between Singapore and Indonesia. The one-year tripartite Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between the Singapore Tourism Board, Garuda Indonesia, and Changi Airport Group was signed by Terrence Voon from STB, Naufal Aflah, Corporate & Channel Group Head of Garuda Indonesia, and Peh Ke-Wei, Vice President of Market Development, Changi Airport Group, at a press event held at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Jakarta. The partnership focuses on enhancing travel connectivity and promoting two-way tourism between Singapore and Indonesia, through key initiatives include targeted campaigns, joint marketing efforts, and new travel offerings such as Fly-Cruise packages to Singapore.
Singapore’s tourism performance figures have put Indonesia as its second-largest source market globally and the largest in Southeast Asia for 2024, contributing 2.49 million visitors, an 8% increase from 2.3 million in 2023. From January to September 2024, Indonesian visitors generated SGD 2.13 billion in tourism receipts, excluding Sightseeing, Entertainment, and Gaming. Amongst the spending categories, shopping emerged as the largest contributor followed by accommodation and food & beverage (F&B), both of which grew in 2024.
The good performance reflected Singapore’s strong line-up of leisure events in 2024, diverse lifestyle offerings, as well as new and refreshed attractions. These have continued to appeal to Indonesian travelers, reinforcing Singapore’s position as a preferred destination for both leisure and business. With 2025 ahead, new line-up attractions and experiences for leisure, sports, arts, and MICE include Illumination’s Minion Land and Singapore Oceanarium at Resorts World Sentosa, Rainforest Wild Asia and Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree, Asia Comics Expo, Sneaker Con SEA, HSBC Women’s World Championship, Van Gogh Inside: Love Vincent, Marvel Studio’s Infinity Saga Concert Experience, LIV Golf Singapore, La La Land in Concert, Aviation Festival Asia, Asia Energy Week, Halal in Travel Global Summit, and many others.
Garuda Indonesia operates 41 weekly flights on the Jakarta-Singapore route, including two daily flights that were added in December 2024. The airline also serves Singapore from other Indonesian cities, with 7 weekly flights from Bali and 7 weekly flights from Surabaya. In total, Garuda Indonesia provides 55 weekly flights to Singapore from various points in Indonesia.
This fruitful partnership extends the efforts in delivering excellent passenger services, particularly for those who aim to enjoy Singapore, as one of the most popular destinations for Indonesians. It also attracts potential international tourists to explore Indonesia’s wide array of exotic destinations, which connect from Changi Airport, one of the global hubs, to major cities in Indonesia through Garuda Indonesia’s extensive networks from Singapore and domestic routes.
