BLACK KITES FLY FREE: MĀUA NUSA PENIDA’S CONSERVATION MILESTONE

In a heartwarming display of conservation success, MĀUA Nusa Penida, together with the Friends of the National Parks Foundation (FNPF), celebrated the release of three rehabilitated Black Kites at the Bali Wildlife Rescue Center in Tabanan. This inspiring event is a testament to ongoing efforts to restore the island’s vibrant ecosystem and protect its precious wildlife.

The journey of these Black Kites, rescued from illegal captivity and brought back to health after months of dedicated rehabilitation, culminated in a spectacular release ceremony. These majestic birds, once suffering from malnutrition and injuries, have now regained their strength and are ready to soar the skies of Nusa Penida once again.

The event kicked off with a traditional prayer ceremony, highlighting the spiritual significance of returning these raptors to their natural habitat. Attendees, including FNPF staff, volunteers, local authorities, and conservation NGOs, gathered to witness the birds’ triumphant flight back into the wild.

Sebastien Menesguen, General Manager of MĀUA Nusa Penida, expressed his pride in supporting this crucial conservation effort, emphasizing the resort’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. “Seeing these Black Kites fly free again is truly inspiring. It reminds us of the importance of collective action in preserving our planet’s biodiversity,” he said.

Drh. Bayu Wirayudha, FNPF Founder and Director, highlighted the significance of continuous conservation efforts, stressing the need for habitat protection and community engagement to ensure the long-term survival of wildlife.

The local government, represented by I Gede Putu Ariyanta, Head of BKSDA Bali, also voiced strong support for the initiative, underscoring the shared responsibility in protecting the environment for future generations.

The successful release of the Black Kites marks not only a significant milestone in wildlife conservation but also serves as a powerful reminder of the crucial role each of us plays in safeguarding endangered species. With collective effort and dedication, we can continue to protect and restore the natural beauty and biodiversity of Nusa Penida, ensuring that future generations can witness the majesty of these raptors soaring free in the wild.
