On April 11 and 12, Global Jaya School proudly hosted the International Baccalaureate’s (IB) Festival of Hope, bringing together 200 students from across Jakarta for an uplifting celebration of hope and positive action. The event served as a powerful reminder of the impact young minds can have in shaping a better future.
The Festival of Hope, an IB initiative, is designed to empower youth to tackle pressing global challenges through courageous inquiry, critical reflection, and creative action. Students were encouraged to transform challenges into opportunities, fostering a sense of optimism and determination. “Now is not the time for playing it safe,” said Olli-Pekka Heinonen, Director General of IB. “If our global youth (and our planet) are to thrive as they deserve, then we must face some hard questions and take meaningful action.”

- Opening Ceremony with performances by Year 6 students and keynote speeches from the Ministry of Youth and Sport, IB representatives, and the Head of School.
- Students will develop Hope Goals focused on specific themes such as, Hope in a Digital Society, Hope in Adversity, and Hope in Wellbeing. Students will also take part in music, sports activities, and networking to develop positive, Hope focused connections throughout the region.
- Interactive activities including a cultural bazaar, sports tournaments (volleyball, badminton, football), and live music.
- Student-led presentations showcasing SDG/Hope Action Statements, with reflections and a final celebration performance by Year 11 students.
Howard Menand, Head of School, shared his optimism, “Hosting the Festival of Hope at Global Jaya makes me hopeful for the future. Our students demonstrate agency, innovation, passion for social justice, and an awareness about the needs of our world.”
The event successfully highlighted the transformative potential of hope and empowered students to take action not just locally, but on a global scale. With its meaningful discussions, interactive activities, and the energy of its participants, the Festival of Hope left a lasting impression on all who attended.
As these young changemakers continue to grow, they carry with them the lessons learned and the hope cultivated at Global Jaya School, a testament to the power of optimism, collaboration, and impactful ideas.
