The Join Sweden Study & Career Fair, organized by the Swedish Embassy in Jakarta, was officiated by H.E. Daniel Blockert, Ambassador of Sweden to Indonesia, Timor Leste, ASEAN, and Papua New Guinea, on 12 April 2025, and was successfully held on Artotel Gelora Senayan. This fair is held in conjunction with the celebration of the 75th year of bilateral diplomatic relations between Sweden and Indonesia, featuring a series of presentations, and talk shows from participating Swedish universities and globally renowned Swedish companies. This fair also serves as a strategic networking platform to connect Indonesian students and professionals with educational institutions and companies from Sweden.
According to the Ambassador of Sweden to Indonesia, Daniel Blockert, “Our relationship has always been good and can do more from both sides, to collaborate on new issues, such as on sustainability, climate change, health, and more either as Sweden or as the EU. In regard to education, the six participating universities and alumni that are here today are open for discussions on sustainability studies, including the environment, climate change, cleaner energy, electric transportation, sustainable mining, and other areas that we can help. These sustainability angles become compelling areas of interest to the young people in Indonesia.”
He added, “With over 900 Indonesian students having been admitted by Swedish universities in 2025, this figure marks a significant increase of 73% compared to the previous year, which only amounted to around 160 students. We do hope the numbers keep growing in the coming years, especially with the enthusiasm of visitors coming here today. They still have time to prepare and learn more about the country. On this occasion, they have opportunities to ask direct questions to the universities, companies, and alumni representatives.”
He said, “The alumni are the best ambassadors to Sweden, they tell stories about Sweden and open broader opportunities among Swedish and Indonesian universities for student exchange programs. Specializing areas to complement each other, for instance with Airlangga University, University of Indonesia, IPB Bogor, and many other options in the future.”
H.E. Daniel Blockert shared some insightful tips for an enriching experience. To prepare, it is important to have knowledge of the language, culture, and places. A visit to the North of Sweden is highly recommended, as it boasts fantastic nature, the mesmerizing Aurora Borealis, wild animals, and a stunning landscape. Additionally, one must try pickled herring, which is especially popular during big holidays like mid-summer.
The participating globally renowned universities in the event included Chalmers University of Technology, the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH Royal), Lund University, Stockholm University, and Uppsala University. From the industrial sectors, multinational companies such as Epiroc, Ericsson, Scania, and Volvo Cars were also present to offer career opportunities for Indonesian talents.
