‘FROM WASTE TO WONDER’ – ECO-FRIENDLY ART INSTALLATION & SCARF COLLECTION IN COLLABORATION WITH ALILA SCBD JAKARTA AND NO’OM/NO’MI

Nestled in the heart of Jakarta’s prestigious SCBD area, Alila SCBD Jakarta, is proud to announce the launch of an exclusive eco-friendly scarf collection, in collaboration with renowned local artist Soetjipto Hoeijaja of no’om|no’mi. This unique exhibition that showcased at the hotel lobby, is inspired by the rich cultures of Indonesia, specifically from Jakarta and Bali, and aims to promote sustainability and cultural heritage.

The installation, adopting the concept of ‘flourished after demise,’ features symbols such as floating cages, abandoned bamboo branches, and eco-friendly scarves, symbolizing a new beginning from an apparent end. Situated in the Alila SCBD Jakarta lobby, the exhibition showcases scarves that adopt a pop-art style, featuring iconic Indonesian symbols such as the ondel-ondel from Betawi’s heritage and the Balinese barong, dancer, and artwork. This resonates with urban and young audiences, promoting local traditional culture through art, fashion, and storytelling. The choice of the Barong from Bali is deeply symbolic. Alila was born in Bali, and the connection between Alila and Bali is inseparable. Historically, Ubud and Manggis are the homes of the first two Alila properties in the world. The essence of discovery, serenity, and balance, intrinsic to Bali, form the very roots of the Alila brand. Alila is more than just a hotel or resort; it embodies the spirit and culture of Bali.

Commemorating Earth Day celebrated worldwide on 22 April, this event serves as a tribute to sustainability and cultural heritage, offering an opportunity for everyone to experience the fusion of art, fashion, and storytelling that honors both local traditions and global eco-consciousness. Alasdair Davidson, General Manager of Alila SCBD Jakarta, expressed his pride in this event launching and collaboration: “We are proud to partner with no’om|no’mi to present this eco-friendly scarf collection. This initiative not only celebrates Earth Day but also underscores our commitment to sustainability and cultural heritage.

Embodying the heritage of Jakarta, the ‘Ondel-Ondel Alila’ scarf showcases iconic sights and cultural elements of the city. It features Betawi heritage symbols such as the ondel-ondel gigantic puppet figures, representing male and female ancestors, symbolizing protection and cultural heritage), roti buaya (crocodile-shaped bread typically used in Betawi wedding ceremonies), Bajaj three-wheeled motorized rickshaw, kerak telor, and notable landmarks like Monumen Nasional, Monumen Selamat Datang, and the iconic bamboo-inspired architecture of Alila SCBD Jakarta. This beautiful scarf design will surely enhance guests’ outfits. Soetjipto Hoeijaja, the co-founder and creative fashion designer of no’om|no’mi, shared his excitement: “We are delighted to collaborate with Alila, a renowned brand that consistently implements sustainable practices. This partnership allows us to showcase our creative designs while promoting eco-consciousness. There are 25 patterns and motifs in total, crafted as masterpieces by no’om|no’mi.
