JOHN HARDY 50TH ANNIVERSARY PRESENTS THE ICON CHAIN MASTERCLASS WORKSHOP

Established in 1975, the journey of John Hardy began with a passion for creative design, artisanal methods, and the beauty of the Balinese people and the island. Now, 2025 marks this historical moment as the brand turns 50, now under the tutelage of Creative Chairman Reed Krakoff, whose design finesse carries the heritage and brand codes for today’s global audience while creating an even more profound brand legacy for the next 50 years.
Ingrained in the brand’s ethos is a deep reverie for Bali’s ecosystem of human and natural resources, which was instilled by its founder and carried out today by Reed Krakoff and the John Hardy workshop. To mark the occasion, the Icon 50 and Spear 50 anniversary collections debuted in February, with upcoming events at the John Hardy Seminyak Boutique in Bali. This includes an exhibit of jewelry from the archives and the launch of a new Icon Chain Masterclass for customers wanting to try their hand at weaving silver and customizing an icon chain bracelet.
Three-time Accessory Designer of the Year award recipient by The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Reed Krakoff, joined John Hardy in 2022 with his reputation for reinvigorating brands. He is globally recognized and celebrated for his creative vision for unprecedented impact on the luxury accessories space. He brought his directional design and brand concepts to the essence of John Hardy, refreshing the codes, DNA, and values to further its jewelry proposition.

Reed Krakoff has refined classic motifs such as the signature hand-woven chains of Icon, the protective, loving mythical Balinese dragon of Naga, and the Carved Chain group that transforms weaving into two-dimensional texture. Engaging the distinguished jewelry look, Reed Krakoff has launched several new collections. To wit, the sculpted lines of Surf, the sleek, streamlined essence of Spear, the organic beauty and serendipity of Pebble, and the Artisan Series that elevates signature silhouettes to their peak are destined to become future brand heroes.

Additionally, the stores, packaging, campaigns, and branding have evolved under Krakoff, drawing upon its brand color, orange, which is drawn from the prevalence of the Marigold flower used in Balinese offerings found on the small Indonesian island. Reed Krakoff has taken a 360 approach to each detail of the company, expanding the idea of its core to celebrate Balinese artisans and craftsmanship to go beyond its tropical birthplace and engage in a global luxury lifestyle. “Everything has a direct connection to the brand’s spirit, but it’s been refined. We build from the handcrafted aesthetic by developing more design concepts and silhouette expansion,” said Krakoff. In the spirit of its founder, an eco-activist well before it trended, metals are reclaimed, and stones are ethically sourced.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary, the Icon Chain Masterclass offers a deep dive into the unique John Hardy Icon Chain weaving technique, from creating the links to weaving the chain. Guests will learn all the steps involved in making the Icon Chain, a first-hand experience. Followed by a Long Table family-style lunch, then each guest will leave with a John Hardy Icon bracelet engraved with their initials. The Icon Chain Masterclass is priced at IDR 18,100,000 nett per person, available daily from 11 AM – 2 PM, with a reservation at least 2 days in advance.
