THE ART OF BALINESE ELEGANCE AT REGENT BALI CANGGU

Regent Bali Canggu is a refined reimagining of a modern luxury resort where thoughtful design, deep cultural reverence, and artisan excellence converge on the island’s coveted southwest coast. The resort is a sanctuary that honors Bali’s spirit through a seamless blend of architecture, landscape, and storytelling.

Regent Design Philosophy
All about the beauty of contrasts where discreet maximalism bridges the gradient between serenity and stimulation, revealed through a fresh approach to modern luxury. The design narrative is conveyed through its brand color, Celadon, used in Ancient Chinese pottery and enhanced by bold, jewel tones. Iconic architectural and design features will add a touch of elegance and a sense of spectacular to each Regent hotel and are complemented by signature flourishes tailored to each distinctive location, including bespoke illustrations, each developed to tell a different hotel story.

Bespoke Illustrations
The new Regent design philosophy comes to life with illustrations that depict each hotel’s take on the legendary icon of its location or the well-established legend of luck. Used on the inside of envelopes or paper bags, and even on the inner lining of umbrellas, they will become part of the guests’ journey to discover a destination.

The illustration at Regent Bali Canggu is intertwined with the Bali Strait, which was formed to prevent Manik Angkeran from returning to Java. The Besakih Temple, the largest temple in Bali, is believed to be the original grounds of the dragon. The illustration by Saddo features symbols from the legend, including Manik Angkeran, the Besakih Dragon, Mount Agung, coconut trees, rice paddies, frangipani flowers, Bali Mynah birds, and the Canggu waves. This illustration is found in various hotel materials.

Architectural and Interior
More than a place to stay—it was conceived as a living, breathing tribute to Bali’s natural and cultural rhythm. Every detail tells a story of place, legacy, and craftsmanship. The master plan, envisioned by the global architecture house Wimberly, Allison, Tong, and Goo (WATG), draws inspiration from the layered simplicity of Balinese villages and rice terraces. Low-slung structures rise gently from the landscape, guiding the eye from the serene arrival pavilion towards the sea. This sacred visual axis, framed by a temple and grounded by ocean views, creates a quiet grandeur that feels both timeless and elemental.

Inside, the world-renowned Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) delivers a nuanced expression of contemporary Indonesian elegance. The interiors draw from a palette grounded in nature that defines earth tones, lush greens, and deep blues accented by vibrant hues, subtly echoing traditional batik, songket motifs, and Balinese iconography. The result is a space that feels both rooted and refined, reflecting the resort’s deep commitment to craftsmanship and context.

Landscaping
Designed by Bali-based tropical specialist John Pettigrew, with over three decades of experience on the island, his approach is intuitive and respectfully minimal. He lets the land speak for itself, using native flora, gentle water features, and clean sightlines to soften built forms and create immersive calm. “A landscape should elevate the experience, not overwhelm it,” John Pettigrew shares.

Materials and Artistry
At every turn, artisanal touches elevate the resort beyond mere aesthetics. Guests are welcomed by a monumental Paras stone carving at the entrance, hand-chiselled over 30 days by Balinese craftsmen. Weighing more than five tonnes, the floral motif signals the level of artistry that defines the property. Throughout the resort, ceramic accents by Kevala, an atelier led by engineer-turned-artisan Wendy Thomas—offer a tactile sense of place. Each handcrafted piece, shaped on the island, blends technical precision with tradition and a commitment to sustainability. Even the bathtubs tell a story, where the mythical Barong, a protective figure in Balinese culture, is carved into the wood as a quiet guardian.

Design at Regent Bali Canggu is not merely ornamental, it is deeply symbolic, woven with layers of meaning that honor Balinese heritage in every form and finish. The sacred lotus, or Padma, reimagined through architectural expressions, evokes the spiritual purity of the Padmasana throne, offering both a visual and philosophical anchor throughout the resort. Songket textiles, once reserved for sacred rituals and royal ceremonies, inspire the intricate patterns and textures found in the interiors—each thread is a tribute to tradition, ceremony, and cultural pride.

The material palette further deepens this connection to place. Indigenous hardwoods such as Ulin, Bengkirai, Merbau, and Teak, were chosen not only for their enduring strength and natural beauty, but for the stories they carry: resilience, craftsmanship, and the elemental ties between land and legacy. The resort extends an invitation to pause, feel, and reflect on the soulful artistry that defines the spirit of Bali.
