A VIBRANT TRIBUTE TO JAKARTA: LE MÉRIDIEN JAKARTA CELEBRATES HERITAGE WITH LIGHTS AND FLAVORS

A burst of tradition lights up Jakarta’s iconic Sudirman Street this June, as Le Méridien Jakarta unveils festive sidewalk installations to mark the capital’s 498th anniversary.

Lanterns glow in the evening light, while whimsical birdcage soundscapes and ondel-ondel figures draw passersby to pause, snap photos, and admire the scene, an initiative led by Diniarti Pertiwi Probosutedjo, Director of PT Wisata Triloka Buana and owner of Le Méridien Jakarta.

Stepping into the hotel, guests are welcomed by decorative homages to Betawi heritage: a mini Monas carriage with horses, Abang None statues, and a Rumah Kebaya centerpiece. The storytelling continues through the poolside and dining areas, where miniature Monas towers and traditional accents mirror Jakarta’s vibrant identity.

Complementing the visual celebration, La Brasserie Restaurant serves up a curated menu of rare Betawi dishes. Center stage is Gabus Pucung, a nearly forgotten recipe of snakehead fish simmered in a rich kluwak sauce, a dish with deep cultural roots. Other local favorites on offer include Soto Betawi, Kerak Telor, Rujak Juhi, and house-made Roti Buaya, crafted through meticulous research and culinary experimentation.

We aim to revive the flavors and stories of Betawi cuisine that risk being lost,” says Cindra Dewi Jo, Director of Food & Beverages. “Each recipe is a piece of Jakarta’s soul.”

This immersive Betawi tribute runs through the end of June 2025, inviting guests to savor tradition, one bite and one beautifully lit stroll at a time.
