CIKINI 82: FROM A NATIONAL FIGURE’S HOME TO JAKARTA’S NEWEST CULTURAL NEXUS

Pusparagam celebrates the opening of Cikini 82 as a dynamic cultural node.

Nestled in Jakarta’s strategic Menteng district, Cikini 82 stands as a historical building that has quietly borne witness to key phases of Indonesia’s journey. Once a colonial residence for the elite, and later a post-independence diplomatic house and political meeting place, the space embodies a legacy steeped in intellectual, cultural, and cross-national exchange.

For years, the building remained closed to the public. But its architectural richness and historical value endured—culminating in a meticulous restoration that breathes new life and purpose into its walls. Under the stewardship of owner Lukas Budiono, the restoration of Cikini 82 has been handled with heartfelt care. Original architectural elements and the building’s historical ambiance were preserved, while new functions were thoughtfully introduced to transform it into a vibrant public space. This restoration is more than a physical preservation—it is a revival of meaning. Cikini 82 now emerges as a site for encounters, exchange, and intergenerational collaboration. More than just a place, it becomes a platform where ideas, arts, and communities can converge and flourish.

To mark this new chapter, Cikini 82 launched Pusparagam, an inclusive celebration that symbolically opened its doors to all. Through curated programming—such as the Sanjivana Art Exhibition, Experiential Dining with Lenore, and an interdisciplinary Soirée featuring performances and networking sessions—Pusparagam offered a glimpse into the kind of vibrant, multivocal cultural activity the space now supports.

Cikini 82 represents a vision of openness: an egalitarian cultural environment brimming with possibility. The space is now a shared home—welcoming art, cuisine, community discussions, and cultural festivities under one elegant roof. It doesn’t merely house history; it activates it. With Pusparagam, Cikini 82 solidifies its new role as a living cultural hub—one that honors its past while forging a future of connection and creativity in the heart of the city.

This inaugural celebration came to life through collaborations with numerous partners, including Bintang Sempurna (Printing Partner), Connected Art Platform (Art Community Partner), Flowers & Beyond (Decor Partner), Lenore (Experiential Dining), Culture Royale, Dillco Chocolate, Bora Soda, Pisang Madu Bu Nanik (Food & Beverage Partners).
