a meaningful tribute to World Mangrove Day, The Ascott Limited Indonesia joined forces with Somerset and Pop! Hotels to plant 1,000 mangrove seedlings along the coastline of Tidung Kecil Island, Thousand Islands. As part of their long-standing commitment to sustainability, this initiative underscores the importance of preserving coastal ecosystems and fighting climate change through real action.
The activity falls under the company’s sustainability program, Ascott CARES, which highlights five pillars: Community, Alliance, Respect, Environment, and Supply Chain. “This isn’t just symbolic. It’s part of our daily responsibility,” said Philip Barnes, Country GM of Ascott Indonesia. Employees joined together to plant seedlings, clean the mangrove site, and monitor previous growth, reinforcing a lasting commitment to the environment.
With over 3 million hectares of mangroves, Indonesia holds roughly a quarter of the world’s mangrove forests. “Protecting this natural heritage is vital,” added Patrick Legrand, Director of Operations. “Even small steps like this contribute to long-term sustainability.”
This initiative blends community engagement and corporate responsibility, positioning Ascott Indonesia as a leader in responsible tourism and environmental conservation.
