Greenship NetA Zero Healthy Building - United Tractors Head Office

United Tractors is shaping its sustainable future through innovation, education, and environmental stewardship. This article explores how the company’s bold initiatives are transforming industry standards and empowering communities across Indonesia.

United Tractors (UT) is redefining sustainability in Indonesia’s industrial landscape through its bold “United Tractors Group 2030 Sustainability Aspiration”. Anchored in the 3P Roadmap Strategy, Portfolio, People, and Public Contribution, at the heart of this vision stands the UT Head Office, a living testament to green innovation and environmental stewardship.

Designed to minimize its ecological footprint while maximizing comfort, the Head Office integrates expansive green zones that cover over 44% of the site. High-reflective surfaces help lower surrounding temperatures by up to 4.2°C, while solar panels generate clean energy to power daily operations. Intelligent lighting systems equipped with sensors and highly efficient air conditioning units further optimize energy use, resulting in an Energy Efficiency Intensity (EEI) well below national benchmarks. These innovations have earned the UT Head Office platinum-level green building certifications and national energy efficiency awards, with annual carbon emission reductions nearing 1,400 tons of CO2.

Beyond architecture, UT’s commitment to sustainability extends into the heavy equipment and transportation sectors. As the official distributor of the Komatsu HB365-1, Indonesia’s first 30-ton class hybrid excavator, UT empowers clients to achieve greater fuel efficiency and lower exhaust emissions without compromising performance. In the transportation segment, UT distributes UD Trucks and Scania fleets equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology, which effectively reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and supports compliance with stringent environmental regulations. These low-emission solutions reinforce UT’s position as a responsible and forward-thinking leader in industrial practices.

UT’s strategic partner, Traktor Nusantara (Traknus), is also making strides in sustainable innovation. As part of the Astra Heavy Equipment, Mining, Construction, and Energy group, Traknus introduced Indonesia’s first hydrogen-powered forklift, the Toyota Forklift Fuel Cell 70-8FBE18, a significant milestone in the material handling industry. Traknus also showcases the Toyota Order Picker 8FBP15, a compact and energy-efficient solution designed for maneuvering in narrow spaces, powered by a lithium-ion battery that enhances operational sustainability.

In support of Indonesia’s clean energy transition, UT is actively expanding its renewable energy portfolio through PT Energia Prima Nusantara (EPN) who develop and install rooftop solar power plants for industrial and commercial clients, while also venturing into other sustainable energy sources. Through its subsidiaries, UT is involved in geothermal projects, run-of-river hydro power plants, and waste-to-energy initiatives. These contribute to diversifying the national energy mix and support Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission target by 2060, positioning UT as a key player in the country’s renewable energy landscape.

UT’s commitment to sustainability is matched by its dedication to creating a thriving workplace. On June 20, 2025, UT and its subsidiaries; Pamapersada Nusantara (PAMA), Kalimantan Prima Persada (KPP Mining), and Komatsu Remanufacturing Asia (KRA), were honored at the HR Asia Awards in Jakarta. The UT Group received three prestigious accolades: Best Companies to Work for in Asia, Sustainable Workplace, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI). Selected from a competitive pool of over 20,000 companies across 15 Asian markets, this recognition highlights UT’s unwavering commitment to fostering a healthy, inclusive, and future-ready work environment, in alignment with its 3P Roadmap Strategy.

UTSchool – SOBAT

Education is a cornerstone of UT’s sustainability journey. Through the UTFuture CSR pillar, the company champions its flagship program SOBAT (Sekolah Binaan United Tractors), which takes a holistic approach to strengthening vocational education across Indonesia. The program focuses on curriculum development and teacher training, student competency and character building, and the provision of modern training facilities that meet industry standards. With fourteen integrated initiatives, SOBAT has reached over 1,700 schools across all 34 provinces in Indonesia. UT also collaborates with the Ministry of Education to design specialized heavy equipment curricula, conduct industrial classes, organize student competitions at national and international levels, and provide internships within the UT Group.

Furthering its educational mission, UT established the UT School in 2008 as a vocational training center dedicated to producing skilled heavy equipment mechanics and operators ready to work both nationally and internationally. Partnerships with universities such as AstraTech expand educational opportunities by offering applied bachelor programs that combine advanced technical knowledge with leadership and management skills. By aligning education closely with the real demands of industry, UT helps shape a generation of talented and adaptable young Indonesians prepared to thrive in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
