To commemorate Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day, Ascott Waterplace Surabaya launched “Raya Indonesia,” a month-long celebration of art, culture, and community. Partnering with 17 local institutions, artists, and crafters, the hotel transformed its lobby and dining area into a vibrant gallery of creativity and heritage.
The Art & Craft Takeover featured sustainable homeware by Chop Value, elegant fashion from Indonesian Fashion Chamber, and watercolors by Patricia Thebez that explore mental health awareness. Guests could also admire masterpieces by Lim Keng and O.H. Supono, recycled jewelry from Rubysh, and handmade crochet by Saat Senggang, empowering local women artisans. All showcased items were available for purchase, with 100% of proceeds going directly to the creators, supporting UMKM Indonesia and ethical consumption.
General Manager Budhi Sanjaya emphasized the hotel’s commitment to “The Savour Art of Life,” a philosophy that celebrates local artistry and strengthens brand identity through cultural engagement.
The Artalkshow brought together thought leaders like Danny Hartanto (Orasis Art Space), Patricia Thebez, and Mila Wijaya to discuss how art shapes communities and personal healing.
On weekends, the Pasar Minggu pop-up market offered batik from Yagasu, tenun by Oktatelier, and artisan snacks like Savas’t tea and Momami dimsum, perfect for guests seeking authentic Surabaya culinary experiences.
A batik workshop by Universitas Negeri Surabaya and live performances of Tari Remo and gamelan music rounded out the festivities, attracting international guests and spotlighting Indonesia’s rich artistic legacy.
