SJM MACAO OPEN 2025 WILL BE BACK ON THE COURSE

Where Legends Return and New Stars Rise

From October 16–19, the lush fairways of Macau Golf & Country Club will once again host the SJM Macao Open—one of Asia’s most prestigious professional golf tournaments. With a prize purse of USD 1 million and a line-up that reads like a who’s who of international golf, the 2025 edition promises high drama, elite competition, and a celebration of Macao’s growing stature as a global sports destination.

Leading the field is English golf icon Lee Westwood, returning to the site of his 1999 victory. “The course always brings out the best in me,” he shared, reflecting on the memories and motivation that fuel his comeback. Joining him is South Korea’s Sungjae Im, a two-time PGA Tour winner and Presidents Cup veteran, making his Macao debut. “I’ve heard incredible things about the tournament and the city,” said Im. “I’m excited to compete and experience it all firsthand.

Defending champion Rattanon Wannasrichan returns with confidence, aiming to replicate his wire-to-wire win from 2024. “This is one of my favorite weeks on the calendar,” he said. Also in the mix: Chinese golf pioneer Liang Wenchong and Macao’s own Kelvin Si Ngai, a six-time Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship participant. “Competing in my city lets me test my game against world-class pros,” said Si Ngai, whose presence adds a layer of local pride to the international field.

The SJM Macao Open Qualifier, held September 8, offers rising talents from the Greater Bay Area a chance to earn their place in the main draw. It’s part of a broader initiative to grow the sport regionally and inspire the next generation of golfers. Ms. See Lei, Acting Vice President of the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, emphasized the event’s role in showcasing Macao’s capability to host world-class sporting events. “We aim to attract athletes and tourists alike, blending sport and leisure into one unforgettable experience,” she said. Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, echoed the sentiment: “We’re proud to extend our partnership and continue supporting the integration of sports and tourism in Macao. This tournament is a cornerstone of that vision.”

With support from IMG, the Asian Tour, and the Macau Golf Association, the SJM Macao Open continues to elevate its global reputation. “This tournament consistently delivers spectacular action and hospitality,” said Grant Slack, Executive VP of IMG Golf. Mr. Johnny Senna Fernandes, President of the Macau Golf Association, added: “The SJM Macao Open is a catalyst for golf’s growth in Macao. Together, we’re building a vibrant, competitive future for the sport.”
