SWITZERLAND–INDONESIA 75 YEARS: OFFICIAL VISIT BY VICE PRESIDENT GUY PARMELIN TO STRENGTHEN BILATERAL RELATIONS

To celebrate 75 years of Indonesia–Switzerland bilateral relations in 2026 and their long-standing partnership in economy, education, and innovation, the Embassy of Switzerland in Indonesia hosted a series of official visits led by Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin, Vice President of Switzerland and Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER). Two key highlights included the visit to Bandung Polytechnic for Manufacturing (POLMAN-Bandung) on 2 October 2025 and the Switzerland–Indonesia Infrastructure Conference 2025: Innovative Solutions in Infrastructure Development in Jakarta on 3 October.

At POLMAN-Bandung, Parmelin was joined by H.E. Olivier Zehnder (Ambassador of Switzerland to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and ASEAN) and Stella Christie (Vice Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of Indonesia). They witnessed the signing of the Renewable Energy Skills Development (RESD) and Swiss Skills for Competitiveness (SS4C) programs.

Parmelin emphasized Switzerland’s commitment to strengthening ties through vocational programs that build a competent workforce for the renewable energy industry. He highlighted Switzerland’s globally recognized dual-track system combining theory and practical work, public-private partnerships, labor market-oriented skills, lifelong learning, and career mobility. As a product of the Swiss vocational system, he encouraged young Indonesians to pursue these programs for better career and professional paths.

The following day, the Switzerland–Indonesia Infrastructure Conference 2025 convened in Jakarta to deepen collaboration in renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure. The event gathered government officials, industry leaders, and business associations, showcasing Swiss technologies and fostering project development. Opening remarks were delivered by Parmelin and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Development), followed by keynotes from Martin Hirzel (President of Swissmem) and Andri Doni (Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Electrical Power Society, MKI).

A highlight was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Swissmem and MKI, advancing collaboration in Indonesia’s energy sector. Discussions focused on the renewable energy transition, infrastructure, transportation, water, waste management, and financing institutions.
