ICAD 15 TRANSFORMS KEMANG INTO A HUB FOR SUSTAINABLE ART AND URBAN DIALOGUE

Jakarta’s creative pulse returns to Kemang this October with the 15th edition of the Indonesian Contemporary Art & Design (ICAD) exhibition, themed Earth Society.

Held at grandkemang Hotel Jakarta from October 10 to November 9, 2025., this year’s ICAD invites visitors to rethink how we coexist with nature, community, and culture through the lens of sustainability, collective action, and creative experimentation.

Curated by Prananda L. Malasan and Jerrey David Aguilar, Earth Society brings together over 50 artists, designers, and multidisciplinary creatives from Indonesia, Southeast Asia, and beyond. The exhibition spans five categories: Special Appearance, In Focus, Featured, Collaborations, and Open Call, each offering distinct perspectives on climate, urban life, and social transformation.

Highlights include new works by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Indonesia’s sixth president, whose personal interpretations of Earth Society add a reflective layer to the show. Also featured are Ghea Panggabean, Yani Mariani Sastranegara, and Thai artist-activist Wishulada Panthanuvong, known for transforming discarded materials into high-value art. The Special Appearance section also honors Imam Buchori Zainuddin, a pioneer of Indonesian product design, whose legacy bridges past and future.

Beyond the gallery walls, ICAD 15 activates the hotel’s lobby as a communal stage for talks, workshops, film screenings, and performance art. Architect Trianzani Sulshi’s stage design emphasizes contrast and negotiation, reminding us that collectivity is built through difference.

One standout program, “Knowing Co-Existence” by MOTE, invites participants to create petridish art, blending science and design in a hands-on experience. Meanwhile, the ICAD Student Tour connects over 20 schools with curators and artists, fostering intergenerational dialogue and creative literacy.

Whether you’re an art lover, urban thinker, or curious passerby, ICAD 15 Earth Society offers a space to pause, reflect, and imagine new ways of being. It’s not just an exhibition. It’s a living conversation about the future.
