Being asked about his leadership style in managing the two properties, Hendy answered, “I believe in leading the team with heart, giving them empowerment, trusting their abilities, and ensuring that every associate understands the reasons behind what we do.” He emphasized, “I focus on collaboration and clarity, ensuring both hotels operate with shared values while maintaining their unique brand DNA. Consistency, communication, and recognition are key factors. When people feel seen, trusted, and supported, they naturally deliver their best – and that’s where the true hospitality begins.”

Facing the inevitable global trends ahead of us with a strong shift toward experience-driven stays, Hendy stated, “Today’s travellers seek authenticity, flexibility and meaningful connections rather than just accommodation. Technology and sustainability will continue to shape guest expectations, and personalization will define hospitality in the next few years.” He added, “We need to stay adaptive and guest centric – integrating digital convenience while maintaining the warmth of human interaction. A graduate of the Swiss Hotel Management School, he began his professional journey as a Trainee, before steadily advancing through key operational roles including Reservation Manager, developing a strong foundation in guest service and operations. His leadership potential came to prominence during his tenure as Director of Rooms at W Bali, where he mastered the art of crafting exceptional guest experiences, nurturing high-performing teams, and driving operational excellence. At just 34 years old, Hendy achieved a significant career milestone when he was appointed General Manager of Fairfield by Marriott Sunset Road Kuta. He later served as General Manager of Four Points by Sheraton Surabaya, Tunjungan Plaza, before leading the pre-opening of Aloft Surabaya, where he demonstrated his expertise in building hotel operations from the ground up .
Having achieved a top leader position at such a relatively young age, Hendy insists on making time for his family and stays active through sports and travel. He especially enjoys taking short staycations with them, exploring local destinations, trying new flavours, and creating simple moments together. These experiences keep him grounded and remind him of the guests’ perspectives. Moments like these help him return to work with renewed energy and a clearer sense of purpose.
