“In the making of this collection, I was inspired by the whole modern oriental feel.” Explains Naomi Annastasia—the designer behind May&June— about the inspiration for her collection.
In embracing the spirit of the festivity, May&June, the sister brand from Alleira Batik showcased special 2015 Chinese New Year ready-to-wear collection. With the brand’s signature romantic flower prints and feminine silhouette, the designer describes the theme of the collection as “Oriental Opulence”. Without a doubt, May&June‘s exciting numbers made quite an impression, especially for fashionistas who wish to celebrate Chinese New Year in style.
Dressing up in a brand new red outfit has always been a major norm during the Chinese New Year. Most people believe that wearing red color will bring happiness and fortune. At this golden opportunity, May&June decided to harmonize the collection with a blush of pink and red to complement the feminine and elegant feel. In highlighting the versatility of the collection, the designer took the risk by playing along with different range of fabric. Silk gabardine, tweed, and semi reflecting gabardine were perfectly seen radiating the oriental essence on a clean-cut silhouette. Oriental ornaments, like Mandarin collars were seen on dresses and blouses.
Thinking outside the box, Naomi Annastasia created the looks that are effortless and easy to pull off for both daytime and semi-formal occasion. Some key pieces to highlight from this season incorporate oversized bright color structural jacket and tweed jacket-skirt for a semi-formal event. Meanwhile, for a romantic date night, May&June presents wide selections of floral print dress with mandarin collar detail, fit and flare dress or a figure hugging dress. For those rooting for a relaxed silhouette, floral palazzo pants or a choice of timeless tops with voluminous sleeves were also included to the collection.
