Hyundai’s representative into the modern EV movement is an amalgamation of effective design and practical function.
Focusing on minimalism and an ergonomic design plan, the IONIQ’s redefining of the driving experience starts from the inside. Useful new touches have been applied to important elements such as the driving position, display panel and transmission control. The Electric Power Seats are now equipped with 2 memorized seating settings and lumbar support, the Supervision Cluster with its 7-inch Colour LCD accurately displays information about the car, and the central front panel’s 8-inch Audio Display offers various information from electrical component performance to Bluetooth and USB connections through its touch panel. The ‘Shift by Wire’ system makes shifting gear even easier through the single press of a button.
IONIQ’s ergonomic and functional minimalist design is also visible on the exterior. Every line and curve signifies the smoothness of the ride and the power of the motor. Considerate details can be found on the LED Daytime Running Light which improves visibility during the day while maximum illumination at night uses only a bare minimum of electricity. IONIQ’s front grille is designed to depict the car’s futuristic ideals and with safety, security and ease in mind, IONIQ’s charging port offers two charging modes in standard and fast-charge.
Improving the driving experience would be meaningless without advanced safety protocols. IONIQ Electric applies its Blind Spot Collision Warning which is installed inside the rear bumper and can be monitored through an alarm signal and LED warning light on the side rear-view mirrors. The 7-Airbag System offers maximum protection in collisions with extra protection for the knee and thorax zones. Side collision is also anticipated with a curtain-type airbag for both front and back row.
IONIQ Electric’s 100kW electric motor operates with next to zero noise at all, thus eliminating one of the causes of driving fatigue. The innovation lies in a simpler, more responsive and more reliable power delivery system than conventional fossil fuel engines. Wasted momentum from braking is returned through the Regenerative Braking System straight back into the IONIQ’s Electric Power Control Unit.
Using Hyundai’s own 38.3kWh Lithium-ion Polymer Battery, the IONIQ has different charging times when using the trickle setting (approx. 17 hours 30 minutes), AC charging (6 hours 5 minutes) and DC fast charging (57 minutes with 50kW charger and 54 minutes with 100kW charger.) A practical Portable Charger is complementary and can be simply plugged into any home’s AC electric outlet.
