Fitness, with all its physical strength and endurance, is a focus. Wellness is the holistic approach in which fitness, aside from mental and emotional well-being for example, is one of the focuses. So, along with the growth of sports enthusiasts, more people are becoming competitive in sports, from amateur to elite levels. Here, then, we find the role of the obstacle course race, HYROX, and Ninja, highly skilled and certified training coaches and studios, specifically designed for the strength and conditioning training required for races.
Inclover was able to get to know more about this impressive area with Ira Rasyid Reid whose extensive global achievements and recognitions include being a judge for the HYROX World Championship 2024 in Nice, France, and 2025 in Chicago, Illinois, USA, as well as her own numerous podium positions in various prestigious world championships.
As the obstacle course race has evolved from military training into a global fitness phenomenon since the 2010s, Ira’s passion and dedication to participate in such extreme fitness races across the globe grew. From there, she established “Obstacle Republic”, focusing on training in specific sports, namely Obstacle, Ninja, and Fitness races. Ira was justifiably proud in stating, “Obstacle Republic is the only gym in Indonesia that has sent athletes to world championships. As a coach, I prepare my athletes for such races, including HYROX”.

The races involve participants navigating a series of physical challenges, including climbing, crawling, and jumping over natural and man-made obstacles. “Specially designed for this purpose, Obstacle Republic is well-equipped with all the HYROX Stations, including the running track, so I haven’t had any problems training my athletes. They can gain a full-body workout that also blends physical endurance, mental resilience, and community spirit, all in one place. It is an art that combines physical conditioning, mental fortitude, and strategic execution”, added Ira.
Although the Indonesian market has been slow to respond to this sport, concentrated mostly in Jakarta and Bali, due to growing consciousness on wellness and wellbeing, athletes can now be found at a younger age, such as 16 years old. It’s a very promising sport and industry, especially with the growing worldwide communities, where athletes from across the globe gather in one competition. HYROX entered Southeast Asia in 2023 through Singapore, and Obstacle Republic became one of the first affiliated gyms to introduce it in Indonesia. Although official competitions have not yet been held in Indonesia, enthusiasm among the local fitness community continues to grow. “We hope HYROX can officially launch in Indonesia soon. With growing community enthusiasm and support, I’m confident this obstacle workout can become a new trend in our fitness world,” concluded Ira.
