Kempinski to Celebrate Indonesia’s Vibrant Street-Food Scene

Story by

Hotel Indonesia Kempinski will hold a street-food festival from 15 to 31 August at its Signatures restaurant to celebrate the country’s 71st year of independence. Treating both local and overseas customers to an authentic culinary experience, Hotel Indonesia Kempinski is inviting Jakarta’s most popular vendors to actually come to the restaurant to work their magic.

“We know that, in Jakarta, street food is king,” said Executive Chef Mathias Olsson. “We only want to serve the most authentic dishes that are familiar to Indonesians’ taste buds so that Jakartans will appreciate them, and so that overseas visitors can have a truly Indonesian experience within the comfort of our hotel.”

There will be more than 30 dishes available, from bakso to satay to rujak, all commonly found on the streets of Jakarta. They will be curated and presented in a buffet and at food stalls set up at the restaurant. The curating is done by none other than the Jakartans themselves in the polling powered by Indonesia’s leading restaurant portal, Qraved.com, to nominate their favourite street vendors.

“Hotel Indonesia Kempinski is truly proud of its heritage,” noted General Manager Alex Pichel. “So what better way to celebrate this than to invite genuine street-food vendors into the hotel to work alongside our chefs in producing authentic culinary treats for our guests.”

To maintain health and safety standards, the vendors will be required to undertake a medical check-up and will be trained in food preparation hygiene standards before they can join the team at Signatures. These street vendors will also get a chance to win a brand-new cart for the improvement of their own ventures.

Prices will range from IDR 298,000++ per person for lunch during weekdays to IDR 418,000++ for weekend lunches. Dinners will cost IDR 318,000++ per person all week.
