The Embassy of Italy and the Italian Institute of Culture Jakarta presented The Indonesian Creativity through the Triennale of Milan 2016 and the Venice Architecture Biennale 2016 – Reflection and Proposal at IIC Jakarta, Menteng. The exhibition which ran from May to June 2016 was opened by Italian Ambassador to Indonesia, HE Vittorio Sandalli and the representatives of the participating architects.

Budi Pradono, Abie Abdillah, Avin Tijtrowirjo, Raul Renanda and Cosmas Gozali are among the 23 architects who contributed to the “Fortress Europe” architectural installation, currently exhibited in the Time-Space-Existence at Palazzo Mora and Palazzo Bembo, Venice, Italy until November 2016, part of the 15th International Architecture Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia. Each of them presented their own unique take on proper, efficient and aesthetically pleasing social residences to tackle the refugees issue in Europe. HMP Architects, for instance, created “Elevent” – elevated tent. The light materials allow easy transportation and assembly, just the right amount of flexibility required by temporary space without sacrificing the comfort of its residents. Project head Budi Pradono explained that apart from offering solutions to said issue, the project also aims to encourage Indonesian architects’ sensitivity, particularly on social projects.

During the exhibition opening, Budi presented “Mountain of Hope”, an exhibition which consists of some video presentation and previous works in the precedent International Venice Architecture Biennale. Meanwhile several works by Cosmas, Abie and Alvin are presently included in the Triennale of Milan 2016 which celebrates art, design, architecture, fashion, film, communication and society, running from April to September 2016.
