The Istituto Italiano di Cultura (Italian Culture Institute) in Jakarta invited the Astra Roma Ballet (ARB) group to perform their first shows outside Italy in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and Bali. Investing in new ideas, the show explores comic imagery, robotic signage and dance routines and is divided into two parts about two robots’ attitudes towards their human counterparts. In part one titled “A New World” we are introduced to a widower who has longed for the presence of a child, so he creates a robot to fill the gap in his heart. The child robot soon becomes self-aware and interested in what it’s like to become human.

He tries to communica,te just like the humans, empathizes and of course falls in love, and in the end, tries to create a better world with his love, just like each of us tries to do. The second part is titled “Time Score” and tells a story about a housekeeper robot and the family that it takes care of. It does its duties as precisely as a timepiece, but when shown its masters’ hardships, it’s untroubled. Unlike them, it just does what it’s supposed to do. Unlike them, it’s not worried about the movements of time, love and heartbreak, birth and death, and strife and peace. Balloon is choreographed by Fausto Paparozzi (part one) and Giada Primiano (part two) and led by étoile Diana Ferrara.
