
LIXIL presents a special day to appreciate the creativity and innovation of Indonesian architects and designers enlivened with a public seminar attended by world-renowned David Gianotten and Olga Bolshanina as well as influential architects in the country.
LIXIL Indonesia, a prominent supplier of bathroom and kitchen products and the parent company of brands like American Standard, GROHE, and INAX, hosted the LIXIL Day of Architecture and Design (LDAD) 2024. This public lecture event, which has been held annually since 2019, aims to connect architects and designers from Indonesia and around the world, showcasing their skills and fostering cultural exchange. This year’s event, held at Ciputra Artpreneur in Jakarta, attracted 500 participants, including architects, interior designers, developers, and professional designers.
The theme for LDAD 2024 is “Adaptive Architecture: Repurposing Obsolescence in Achieving Sustainability Vision,” encouraging Indonesian architects and designers to explore adaptive architecture as a solution to urbanization challenges, particularly in Jakarta. LDAD serves as a platform to share ideas and recognize their significant contributions to a more sustainable future in architecture. It also promotes cross-cultural exchange with international architects and demonstrates LIXIL’s commitment to sustainable development in the architecture sector, encouraging industry professionals to challenge the status quo and offer innovative solutions that positively impact both the social and natural environments.

LDAD 2024 features a lineup of distinguished speakers from both local and international backgrounds such as David Gianotten; Managing Partner and Architect at OMA who oversees numerous development projects globally, such as the Museo Egizio 2024 in Turin and the Bajes Kwartier in Amsterdam, Olga Bolshanina; Associate Partner at Herzog & De Meuron, she manages various international projects, including the Tate Modern in London and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Budiman Hendropurnomo; Director at DCM Jakarta whose work emphasizes sustainability and the promotion of Indonesian culture through architecture and Budi Sumaatmadja; Principal at Anggara Architeam who founded Anggara Architeam in 1995, and has accumulated over 35 years of experience in various architectural sectors, including master planning, hotel, mixed-use development, commercial complexes, shopping centers, residential-retail, office towers, health facilities/hospitals, and other specialized building types.
LDAD 2024 also serves as the occasion to reveal the winners of the LIXIL Architectural Design Competition (LADC) 2024. The winners, recognized for their innovative and sustainable architectural designs, attended the LDAD event to share their inspirations and ideas, offering a profound understanding of adaptive architecture and creative solutions for repurposing abandoned spaces, aligning with this year’s theme. The winning works are categorized into Professional Category Winners and Fresh Graduate Category. “PARK BLOC – A Self Sustained Living Garden City Bloc” by Ar. Ardyana Fahmiadi, IAI, Riski Dwi Fauzi, Robin Christian, MGS Mohammad Ivan Algiffari, and Pandu Naarrusadi managed to win first place followed by “Ragam Satu Harmoni” by Ar. Bramana Ajasmara Putra, IAI, Kadek Yuda Pramana, I Made Dwi Cahyana, and Ni Luh Ayu Indrayani, and “South Terraces Hub” by David Wibowo Sampurna, IAI, Sebastian Hadinata, M. Yahya Ulhaq, Roby Erwin Febriyanto, and Hela Radika Sari. Such are the winners from the Professional Category.

The winners of the LIXIL Design Competition in the Fresh Graduate Category are “Adaptive Nest” by Labitta Qonitah, Tatania Lintang Alviani, and Bismo Aulia Prianggara from the Bandung Institute of Technology, “Kebayoran CityPark” by Muhammad Rai Wananda, Aikha Nabiilal Qisthi, and Khoirunisa from the University of North Sumatra, and “Pattimura Vivid District” by Arham Akbar Muwarih, Muhammad Al Mustofa, Rofi Setiawan, Aditya Haris Widianto, and Widad Muhammad Ramdan from the National Technology University who won first, second and third place respectively.
Arfindi Batubara, Marketing Director of LIXIL Water Technology Indonesia, emphasized the importance of providing space for innovation and creativity for Indonesian architects and designers and representing LIXIL, hopes these winners will inspire others and contribute to creating more inclusive, environmentally friendly, and sustainable cities in the future.
