
BSJ was founded in 1974 with support from the British Embassy to educate the British and Commonwealth families living in Jakarta. Currently with total of 1391 students and 140 teachers, consisting expatriate families at the school, as well as many Indonesian families, forming a community of over fifty nationalities, with students from the ages of 3 – 18 years old.
Located in South West Jakarta, BSJ has a beautiful 18 ha (44.5 acre) campus that has been specifically designed to enrich the academic life of all students. From the classrooms and hubs in Primary to the specialist classrooms in Secondary, staff and students together are able to enjoy high quality teaching and learning. In addition to these academic facilities, the school has a large theatre, a swimming pool, tennis courts and football pitches on campus to provide multiple opportunities for students to have an enriched experience at the school. In 2018, the school completed with new sports hall, which is of national standard specifications.
BSJ curriculum is compatible with both British and International education systems, which allows students to have a truly multi-layered learning experience, from inquiry based learning in Primary and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), through to Key Stage 3, (i)GCSE’s and the IB Diploma program, where BSJ results in both are consistently above the world average.
On the occasion, David Butcher shared the importance to prepare the students with entrepreneurship skills in order to face the future of industry 4.0, since last year the partnership with CEO of 7 billion ideas with David Harkin, where regularly visit every term to give training and motivation on entrepreneurship. Another partnership is with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA with technology education lab and thru Skype teaching for long term development. BSJ is the only school in Indonesia to work with MIT.
David have been appointed as the Principal of BSJ since August 2018. He also a member of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Heads Council that serves as an advisory body to the Senior Leadership of the IB. In the Netherlands he was a member of the Board for the Dutch International Secondary Schools. His career in international education has taken included Greece, Brazil, Jordan, Portugal, the Netherlands and now Indonesia.
