Ascott Jakarta is pleased to announce its collaboration with EcoTouch, focusing on the critical issue of textile waste and the sustainable initiatives that can be undertaken together. Christina, Co-Founder of EcoTouch, has highlighted that textile waste is the second largest waste stream globally, and solutions to address this issue are notably limited. Therefore, this partnership aims to extend the lifecycle of textiles used by individuals and particularly within the hospitality industry at Ascott Jakarta. “Unbeknownst to many, textile waste can originate from clothing, bed linens, hotel towels, and much more,” stated Christina, Co-Founder of EcoTouch.
Ascott Jakarta took the opportunity to invite media representatives and partners for a luncheon, which was followed by a talk show focused on the challenges and solutions in minimizing textile waste, entitled “Transforming Textile Waste into Sustainable Treasures.” The event featured Patrick Legrand, Director of Operations and Safety Security Leader for Southeast Asia, as the speaker. Patrick emphasized that “the sustainability initiatives at Ascott Jakarta have evolved beyond mere environmental considerations; they now include substantial support for local communities and enterprises that are committed to advancing sustainability.”
The event also included a workshop led by EcoTouch, where guests participated in decorating lanyards and keychains crafted from textile waste. Vanessa Velindra, Brand & Marketing Manager at Ascott Jakarta, remarked, “In addition to such collaborations, Ascott Jakarta is dedicated to partnering with various local communities and supporting local businesses by offering them space in the lobby. We aspire to make a meaningful contribution to a brighter future for both Ascott Jakarta and Indonesia, regardless of the scale.”
The partnership between Ascott Jakarta and EcoTouch will be represented by a dropbox located in the Ascott lobby, where guests are encouraged to donate any unused clothing or linens. EcoTouch will recycle and upcycle these contributions, which will be transformed into souvenirs for Ascott Jakarta. The aim is to create a strong network among industry professionals, media, and the community to jointly confront the environmental challenges we face today.
