grandkemang Jakarta took part in World Clean Up Day (WCUD) 2018 at Kemang Site. This year marked the 6th year of grandkemang Jakarta to support and lead the Kemang Raya site, with total volunteers of more than 200 people joining the event within the area. The hotel wants to be one of the companies that make Jakarta a better place as this is one of the Corporate Social Responsibility by joining WCUD annually. The event was held simultaneously in 105 locations throughout Jakarta with approximately 50,000 volunteers on Saturday, September 15, 2018.
This year, Clean Up Jakarta Day turns to World Clean Up Day. The aim to clean up was not only in Jakarta, but now to the whole Indonesia as it is known to produce one of the biggest countries that produce waste. Thus, the name CUJD is renamed to World Clean Up Day to encourage everyone to clean up together.
The vision of the event is that every day will be a World Clean Up Day, as it shapes consciousness and citizens’ responsibility for a better Jakarta. Most of the Jakartans didn’t notice that our capital produces 7,000 tons of rubbish each day, and approximately 200 tons ends up on the streets and in the city’s rivers. By involving the community in a cleanup, we can spread the message that it is everybody’s job to keep this city clean, not just the job of the street sweepers, pemulung, and rubbish men and women. Hopefully, people may understand how detrimental littering can be, and in turn, spark an awareness of the importance of the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
