Closing Ceremony Annual European Union (EU) Climate Diplomacy Week (CDW) in Indonesia 2020

After a 14 days series of inspirational activities, the annual European Union (EU) Climate Diplomacy Week (CDW) in Indonesia was concluded on 6 November 2020. CDW was held from  24 October in which, during the two weeks over 54,000 participants joined virtually with a total of 35 activities, collaborating partners and all highlighting the slogan “Act Today for Our Tomorrow”.

On the closing ceremony, H.E. Vincent Piket, the Ambassador of the EU to Indonesia expressed gratitudes to everyone’s participation, cooperation and dedication, including all 161 partners and 27 member states of EU embassies in Indonesia. The need for actions from the past two weeks of sessions in the name of Climate Action is a necessity. He added, “This third CDW in Indonesia surely is not the last one! All of us have to play our part to fight climate change! Sampai jumpa lagi!”

At the closing ceremony, winners from Climate Change Meme Competition, Climate Smart Innovative Recipe Contest, and Virtual Walk and Cycling Challenge were announced. Most interestingly, Indonesian comic artist Sheila Rooswitha (Kak Lala) also launched a series of comic strips highlighting the five themes of CDW 2020. With a message through these comic strips can encourage others to care more about the environment. The stories are inspired from daily life, on how we are connected and somehow can impact nature which message can be understood by all. The closing event also featured famous Indonesian singer, Tulus, who sang “Gajah” (elephant), a song to motivate people to care for the natural environment.
