Biennale Jogja XVI Equator #6 2021 is officially opened from October 6 until November 14, 2021 with a series of art exhibitions and programs, offline with strict health protocols and online through https://biennalejogja.org/.

In the opening ceremony, Governor of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X through his opening remarks delivered great appreciation to Biennale Jogja with their 10 years Equator series, consistently performing though in unprecedented and challenging situations. He also added, “Yogyakarta as a city of culture, education and tourism with its cultural and community diversity is the perfect host venue for Biennale Jogja, without losing its cultural values and roots, which also with the theme Roots Routes. On the occasion, the Directorate General from Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Dr. Hilmar Farid and Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, H. Sandiaga Salahudin Uno, B.B.A., M.B.A. also delivered opening remarks and support towards Biennale Jogja XVI Equator #6 2021 virtually.

Director of Biennale Jogja XVI Equator #6 2021 Gintani Nur Apresia Swastika mentioned, “Along with the exhibition, there will be more than 70 programs with exhibition activities in 4 locations with Jogja National Museum as the main exhibition venue, then the Biennale Jogja Archive Exhibition at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta with highlights of ideas and dynamics of 10 years journey Biennale Jogja Equator series which presented as Equator Museum. Other exhibits are the Korea and Taiwan booths at the Tanah Liat & Indie Art Museum.”

The opening of the event was marked by unveiling the Biennale Jogja mural, then followed by performances from Mother Bank Band, Nova Ruth and Asep Nayak.
