Alam Atelier School, located at Jalan Pangeran Antasari No. 19, South Jakarta, is dedicated to providing early childhood education (ECE) for children from 6 months to 6 years old. This school adopts the world-renowned Reggio Emilia approach, combined with nature and enquiry-based learning that allows children to learn not just within classroom walls, but also in nature and open spaces, designed by a famous playscape designer from the USA.

In explaining the beauty of the Reggio Emilia approach, Supiani Winata, Founder and Director of Alam Atelier, said: “We adopt the Reggio Emilia approach because it is child-centered and values children as active participants in their learning journey. It emphasizes hands-on experiences, collaboration, and exploration, allowing children to express themselves in ‘a hundred languages’ through various forms of art and communication. Meanwhile, educators act as facilitators, observing and responding to children’s interests, fostering a love for learning and a strong sense of community. Additionally, the environment is considered the ‘third teacher’ for the child. In the design process of Alam Atelier Jakarta, we ensure that our space is not only aesthetically pleasing but also stimulates children’s curiosity and engagement with the environment. Our philosophy focuses on creating spaces that encourage children to explore, inquire, and engage in hands-on experiences, especially in outdoor settings.”

“As mentioned by Ms. Supiani Winata, our program is designed to support the child’s
development holistically. All of our programs and approaches are crafted in a way that aims
to nurture not only intelligent and nature-loving children but also independent, creative, and confident individuals. This was evident in the recent Trunk Show activity, where children aged 2-4 confidently walked in front of numerous guests. Such activities help foster children’s self-confidence. The event was supported by our students’ parents, including Ms. Kimmy Jayanti as the choreographer, and Ms. Flori Amelia, who prepared several collections from her brand, Fur. All the accessories worn by the children were a collaborative work and 100% handmade by teachers and students, using recycled materials such as newspapers, fabric scraps, shopping bags, cardboard, and more. Three of our students even wore outfits made from recycled items like balloons, baby pacifiers, CDs, and others. This recycling activity is part of our daily practice at school, helping children become aware that used materials can be repurposed into art, encouraging them to care for the environment, reduce waste, and develop their artistic creativity from a young age,” added Maryati Lauw, Director of Operations at Alam Atelier.

One of the most exciting aspects of Alam Atelier School is the integration of gymnastics into the children’s daily program. Alam Atelier collaborates with the top gymnastics school in Singapore, Bazgym Gymnastics School. Wen Kai, Director of Bazgym Singapore, said: “In addition to the program we have designed specifically for Alam Atelier students and integrated into their curriculum, Bazgym’s programs are also open to the public for individuals aged 18 months to adults. We are proud to have received the SG Club of the Year award for all our gymnastics programs, and we have won the SME500 award for three consecutive years. Most recently, we were honored by the appointment of Mr. Sng Puay Liang, the founder of Bazgym and a former Singaporean gymnastics athlete, to serve as a judge for the gymnastics competition at the Paris Olympics. At Bazgym, safety is always our top priority when preparing equipment and facilities. I am proud to say that Bazgym Jakarta is equipped with gym equipment built to international Olympic standards, specially imported from France, the United States, and China.”

“Together with my partner, Ms. Neeltje Sutandjati, we have been deeply committed to early
childhood education for the past 17 years. Our goal until today remains to continue producing outstanding students—intelligent, resilient, independent, creative, and with high integrity. By God’s grace, we have already seen and heard countless positive testimonies from former parents of our students. We will continue to collaborate with parents, the Ministry of Education, and all levels of Indonesian society to provide high-quality education for the nation’s children. Last but not least, we are incredibly proud to present to our beloved country, Indonesia, our students who will one day become the future leaders of this great nation,” concluded Supiani Winata.
