As the leading lifestyle hospitality provider, manager, and operator in Indonesia, the AROTEL Group aims to provide a holistic, curated experience, for all of its properties and guests, in Hospitality, Cuisine, and Design. With significant milestones of experience and a consistent commitment toward Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), a framework to evaluate the company’s non-financial performance and sustainability, the ARTOTEL Group focuses on its impact on the planet, its people, and how it operates. It is a key part of sustainable and responsible investing, helping to assess long-term risks and opportunities beyond just profit.
These ideals were justified when the ARTOTEL Group recently became the first local Indonesian hotel operator to receive Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) certification, representing the highest international recognition for sustainable tourism standards.
The GSTC is an independent, international organization that promotes best practices and sets strict operational standards for sustainable tourism. Formed by the United Nations Foundation, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), the GSTC serves as a global benchmark for assessing tangible and measurable sustainability in tourism.

GSTC certification can only be issued by accredited independent certification bodies, making it one of the most credible certifications globally for measuring sustainability performance in the tourism sector. This certification is also known to be one of the most challenging to obtain due to its highly detailed and thorough audit and verification process.
This was also the experienced of the ARTOTEL Group and its four properties when they underwent an audit into the main criteria of Sustainable Management, Socioeconomic Benefits, Cultural Heritage, and Environmental Conservation, conducted by Control Union, the accredited certification body authorized to carry out the GSTC audit and verification process in Indonesia.

Certification was awarded to the ARTOTEL Group, the hotel management and operator, along with four properties that it manages and that were selected as flagships in the certification audit process: ARTOTEL Thamrin – Jakarta, de Braga by ARTOTEL – Bandung, ARTOTEL TS Suites – Surabaya, and ARTOTEL Sanur – Bali.
With this achievement, the ARTOTEL Group has now gained global recognition and trust from stakeholders such as the hotel guests, business partners, and the government, further strengthening the company’s business strategy. This also aligns with various surveys in 2024, which showed that global travellers are increasingly seeking accommodation that implements sustainability programs with real impact. This step is a proactive initiative by ARTOTEL Group to address these trends and needs, while also supporting Indonesia’s efforts towards responsible and sustainable tourism.
