Jakarta’s dining scene just welcomed back an old friend with a fresh face. June 5th, 2026 was the day ORIJIN Japanese Dining reopened their doors at the lobby level of Sari Pacific Jakarta, Autograph Collection, marking a return after 50 years with a renewed vision of Japanese hospitality.

On the opening day, guests were greeted by the gentle strains of a koto, the thunder of taiko drums, and the ceremonial breaking of sake barrels in a Kagami Biraki ritual — a gesture of prosperity and new beginnings. The event closed with a graceful geisha dance, underscoring ORIJIN’s philosophy: rooted in heritage, yet looking forward.

Born in 1976 as Jakarta’s first Japanese restaurant, ORIJIN has always stood for beginnings as its name suggests, derived from “original.” Generations have dined here, and now, under the guidance of Chef Tomoaki Ito, the restaurant enters a new era. Signature favorites like Robatayaki Gindara and Wagyu Miyazaki A5 Sirloin remain, while new creations such as Gindara Misoyaki, Hamachi Kama ORIJIN‑age, and Yakiniku Gyu Karubi reflect a contemporary twist.
The redesigned space draws inspiration from a modern Japanese home. Warm lighting, natural textures, Japanese brickwork, Italian marble, and greenery create a relaxed atmosphere. Diners can choose between the main hall, five private rooms, a robatayaki counter, sushi bar, or live teppanyaki station, each designed to slow the pace and invite connection.
The reopening isn’t just about nostalgia; it’s about inviting a new generation to discover Japanese dining in its purest form, while honoring the stories that began here half a century ago.
